Review "The imagery was so crisp. It was almost too real at times. I really enjoy novels that evoke my imagination and allow me to become one with the novel. This novel was exactly that. I could live, breathe and eat what these characters were doing. It was a perfect novel in every way. I could not find a single fault, plus the cover of the novel was great and perfectly in sync with the story. A great epic fantasy!"-Readers' Favorite
From the Author Hello readers! The formula: intrigue, adventure, drama, and romance in a land on the brink of war. If you like a fast-paced fantasy story, you will feel at home with Fierce Winds Rising. Female readers enjoy the strong, dutiful heroines, while the male readers love the intricate swordplay and intense magical combat. Follow multiple characters in complex interwoven plot lines that are reasonable in scope, never going so far as dwelling on characters that are insignificant to the story and threads that will never be resolved. The main characters include a young prince and princess, a vengeful mage, and several mercenaries. Join them as they struggle to accomplish their duties and goals. The novel is set in the continent of Ersellis. The technology in Ersellis is akin to Earth's technology during the period from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance. Practitioners of magic exist in Ersellis, but they are rare. Magic is an art reserved only for the gifted. Those who have the talent are valued and feared. Other parts of the world are mentioned in the novel, but everything takes place in Ersellis. In the coming sequels, more locations will be introduced to the readers.

By Zs I received this book from the author in excange for an honest review.Fierce Winds Rising is the first book of an epic fantasy series. It was a really enjoyable read, I could hardly put it down. I really liked the world, it was very well described (sometimes even too well...), I could imagine being there with the characters. The story is quite complex I think, with lot of characters and their own agendas. It is not your typican good versus bad fantasy story, it is much deeper than that. Here everyone has their own plans and wishes and they do whatever it takes to make them come true. There are multiple protagonists whom we get to know quite well. It was almost like being with them in their joy or sadness. I find it a good and also not usual approach that there are no good or bad characters (well there are of course better and worse), but everybody has their own strength and weeknesses. Some minor issues that I did not like that much (but they sould not keep anyone from reading the book;)):- at the beginning I sometimes felt like the author didn't know how to express his thoughts, some sentences just felt forced- I didn't like some of the names. I know it's weird, maybe it is my mistake... It is just a unique new world, with new countries with fantasy names, and than there are people called like Hans-Meyer who could be from right next door.- Sometimes the author explained things too many times: the reason why a character did this or that was just explained three times. Maybe he didn't trust the reader to understand the story...- The pointless swearing was disturbing. I am not the person who gets blushed when reading swearwords, I just think that this book really did not need them, they were out of place. Swearing doesn't make a character tougher.Anyways, it was a fantastic debut novel, I am really looking forward to reading the sequel!
1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. great fantasy book. Looking forward to future additions to the story By gctbob Dinoso's Fierce Winds Rising is a suspenseful fantasy novel that conveys its plot through the perspective of multiple, dynamic characters. I really enjoyed Richard's style of writing because each chapter is subdivided into multiple scenes which led to some really suspenseful situations. Each scene shows character development with some characters being extremely dynamic and others maintaining their personality. I was genuinely surprised to see how some characters change through out the story but how appropriate their actions are for their situation and personality. This was actually my favorite aspect of this book. Richard did a really good job developing each character as an individual with their own perspective and I really came to love a couple of the protagonists. Quite a few characters are introduced in the story which made it a bit hard to keep up with at times, but the book mostly revolves around a handful of characters who ultimately develop the story. Throughout the book, you will encounter both "good" and "evil" characters, so its almost like this book has both hero and anti hero protagonists. Each scene is described in detail and a map is included in the front cover for the reader to have a visual aide while reading. Fierce Winds Rising introduces a bunch of different cities and towns so I can foresee some epic battles taking place in future books. I don't want to spoil anything, but Richard includes plenty of rising action in this novel with aggressive climaxes. One final note is that although this book is fantasy, it isn't over the top. Magic use is described early on in the book and its use isn't over the top... like mages are not overpowered and do not need to be nerfed. They are basically like warriors who have perfected a different art than swordplay.I would defiantly suggest this book to any fantasy lover who loves suspense, action, and well developed, lovable (and sometimes devious) characters.

Nicholson "Fierce Winds Rising (Tales of the Ersellian Winds)" is the first book in a medieval fantasy adventure series by author Richard Dinoso. This Kindle e-book was approximately 450 printed pages and sold for $3.99 at the time of writing this review. Please Note: the author provided me with a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.General Theme (minor spoilers)Fierce winds fan the smoldering embers of war in the continent of Ersellis. A politically advantageous marriage puts together two nations who have been itching for retribution from war past waged and lost. Thus begins the clandestine tale of those who will speak for war and those who will strive for peace. Some thought on "Fierce Wind Rising"...1.) generally well written and edited. Prose that was easy to read and understand.2.) map(s)... two good maps. One a global map of Ersellis showing borders of countries and providing a general sense of direction, distance and topography. The second map is nearly the same as the first but has important cities, towns and forts marked.3.) Characters... it took a while to get into significant character development, (see Cons) but it was worth the wait.4.a) travel.... a tale with lots of travel, treks and several clandestine expeditions. It would be hard to conceive of this story without a map(s) as they were essential for following this adventure.4.b) some groups' travel was documented in detail, while others had the group start out and the next encounter with them was at their destination. I found this technique to be not only time saving but probably quite a realistic occurrence... some trips are eventful while others are not.5.) encounters... battles both large and small. Frequently tense, bloody and gory but to a one, well done. Some niggling Cons:1.) early on I felt all characters seemed to have the same personality and demeanor. This changed (for the better) as the story progresses as most players seemed to develop their own traits giving them each a bit of unique identity .2.) been hungry or starved seemed a predominant condition for many characters in this book.3.) swearing... not excessive by any stretch of the imagination, but when used seemed just a bit out of place and contrived. Some books gravitate to swearing as dictated by the characters; some need it, some don't... this was a 'don't'.4.) some (not all) surroundings, rooms and settings for events etc. seemed a bit excessive in their descriptions. This was not a common finding, but occurred just infrequently enough to be noticeable (to me).5.) with so many different groups, each with their own assignment, I found that I started to get a tad confused after a while ;)Impressions:This tale grew on me as I got deeper into the tale and I began to become more familiar with the characters.I look forward to reading more of this intriguing story. As it is... 4 to 4 1/2 StarsRay Nicholsonraynicholsonsreviews@hotmail.com@ralannicholson
