About the Author Teresa Van-Zeller is an advanced clinical hypnotherapist and founder of Hypnosis 2000 and Birthing As Nature Intended, (B.A.N.I.). She has been featured on several television and radio programs, including The Baby Story, Total Health Talk, and Cuide Su Salud, and has published an article in Star Lee Magazine. 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Great Resource for Natural Birth in the Hospital By Lynn M. Griesemer This is an excellent resource for those who are planning a hospital birth. Teresa Van-Zeller writes B.A.N.I. in a straightforward and conversational manner. She encourages women to ask a lot of questions as they think about what type of birth they would like to have. I especially like the discussion of anatomy, physiology, hormones and the birth process. These are topics expectant mothers should be familiar with, but often are not. Van-Zeller cautions that if you do not explore what it is that you want for your birth experience, you will be given a birth experience by the medical establishment, like she was given 30 years ago. The author discusses pain, what our culture assumes about pain and shares a handful of stories of women who felt little to no pain during their births, after attending B.A.N.I. classes. I agree that education is a key to striving for the birth experience that you want, but more important is courage and strength. Van-Zeller reminds readers that birth is a natural biological process and is one that will require strength and a kind of "fight" against a system that has assumptions that do not always serve women well. My favorite chapter was "Some Births Do Not Go As Planned" because she shares what is really going on in hospitals (pressure for drugs and a timely birth) and why. First time mothers and mothers seeking a VBAC will benefit from that chapter alone. The information is there; what women choose to do is up to them. Women CAN have natural births in a hospital setting and this book clearly shows women how to do so. Women have many tools and choices when it comes to preparation for birth: relaxation, visualization, hypnotherapy, and the right kind of childbirth classes can go a long way into paving the way for a satisfying birth. A Great Resource for All Women Who Desire to Experience a Natural, Relaxing Birth By Sharon LaMothe Birthing As Nature Intended is a great read for anyone who is pregnant or planning to become pregnant. Even if you are expecting your third child you will find this book to be refreshing and informative. Needless to say I wish I had read B.A.N.I. 25 years ago while I was pregnant with my own first born. Teresa Van-Zeller has a wonderful and calming way to say `You can do this as millions of women have done before you and you CAN give birth pain free or close to it and have an enjoyable relaxing experience that you will remember for a life time'.I read this book in less than 3 hours. Every page is packed with useful information and I just couldn't put it down. I loved the tips Teresa offers throughout the book especially the parts about having a birth plan and making sure you choose a doctor who supports what YOU want. She talks about expectations and how your body and mind react to what others may tell you. (ohhh the horror stories one hears while pregnant!)I love Birth As Nature Intended (B.A.N.I.)for Surrogates as well as for Intended Parents. Because I am a Surrogacy Consultant, I am always looking for information and guidance regarding pregnancy and labor for my clients. This is a MUST HAVE book for anyone who has any apprehension about birth or labor. It has helped open my eyes to the facts about the natural abilities that my body has. Child birth is a normal, natural thing that we as women were created to do. After taking this class and reading this book, my husband and I are planning a home birth with a wonderful birth team (midwife, doula) and we are EXCITED. All my fear of birth has been completely washed away.
