No soul should be lost… Some ancient tales are written, or whispered, from the lips of generations, young and old. Legends, frozen in time, of brave heroes and soulless villains. Stories that conjure the imagination of valiant knights, riding on steeds, wearing white armor, and swinging a hallowed sword, saving the innocent, and giving back balance to the weak. But what if the soulless villain, Death himself, inherited a soul? Would you trust him? A hero doesn’t always have to wear white, rather, he can come in differing shades of black. Not all are born, yet made from the choices they make, and the sacrifices they give. My Kingdom, Your Heaven. The day the Angel of Death received a soul, and why he gave it back to save others.

An author to watch By Scottish Hunni I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review. This book is one of the most unique historical fiction/fantasy novels I have ever had the privilege of reading. What starts out as a seemingly innocent story about a soldier turns into a full scale battle for the souls of the dead.Mr. Davis's first novel is certainly an enjoyable read. He is very knowledgeable about the American Civil War and manages to put a different twist on it. Definitely worth the read!

I especially loved the melting of the Civil War with the supernatural By kathleen phillips I'm not a Science Fiction reader but this was very entertaining. I especially loved the melting of the Civil War with the supernatural . I sometimes set a book down for several weeks but this story kept me reading to the finish. Loved it! Kathy Phillips

By CJ Rutherford I am so glad I was given this advance copy in exchange for an honest review. And this is honestly one of the most enjoyable and completely unique stories I've ever read. A lot of books seem to rehash the same plotlines over and over, but what Scott does is to create something fresh and new.Set in the times of the American Civil War, he brings his reenacting experience into full play. Everything is authentic and plausible. You can almost smell the blood and gun smoke. 'Is that it?' I hear you ask.No! Enter the world of angels and demons, as the battle for human souls commences. The hero of the story is an unlikely one, a being who you will come to love and respect. What results is a tale which will lift you up. I loved it. A well deserved 5 stars.

Beautiful story By Kristy *I want to thank the author for allowing me the opportunity to read her book for free in exchange for an honest review*I loved this book! I think this was the perfect way to end this series. I don't want to say too much about it as I don't want to spoil anything, so I just want to say go get this book. If you haven't been introduced to this author's work, I highly suggest becoming acquainted because she writes beautiful stories. I can't wait to see what's next from Ms. Egonu.I will leave you with a couple of quotes that I absolutely fell in love with and I think capture the themes of the story nicely."Hatred is a poison and clouds the ability for knowledge." and "Love is an insanity that selfishly possesses the heart and mind and leaves barely any room for other thoughts and feelings." Beautiful, right? Those are just two of the many quotes that stood out to me while reading.I am telling you go get this book you won't be disappointed :-)

Typos Leave Me Suspicious By Megan Charlotte Mason's Home Education is an EXCELLENT book and anyone considering homeschooling should look into her methods.But.... There have been many CM series that have been copied straight out of amblesideonline.com, and while I am not 100% sure this is one of those stolen copies, there are many typos and errors that leave me suspicious. I have also seen other books in the series by this publisher with comments saying it was stolen. So be warned: At the very best you will be purchasing a badly edited book.As for me, I will be buying the remainder of the series from a different publisher.

By dickensfan As a homeschool graduate, and author of Homeschooling: The Bigger Picture (your conversation with a homeschool graduate) I know a thing or two about homeschooling. I also know that while things have changed a lot from the times of Charlotte Mason, the way that children learn naturally and are provided with the best "education" is not something that changes over time. This book is an excellent resource and I would highly recommend it.Personally I loved the chapter on foreign language as I studied Latin in high school. The works of Charlotte Mason are truly remarkable and a much needed education in itself.

Read Ebook The Watson Novels, by Ann Mychal

Gathered together in one volume, Ann Mychal's novels 'Emma and Elizabeth' and 'Brinshore' are inspired by Jane Austen's unfinished manuscripts. 'Emma and Elizabeth', inspired by 'The Watsons', contrasts the fortunes of the Watson sisters in a world where the alternative to marriage is poverty. Emma returns to her family penniless when her widowed guardian remarries. At a local assembly she is admired by more than one suitor, but her lack of fortune has the potential to ruin her happiness. Elizabeth, a woman on the verge of spinsterhood, has little hope of love. But when duty to the family is tested, one sister is obliged to sacrifice her own happiness for the sake of the other. Set in Surrey in 1795, Emma and Elizabeth blends passages from the original fragment into the narrative, creating a unique story which is faithful to Jane Austen's style and subject matter. ‘Written with an astute knowledge of the time period and an unmistakable devotion to Jane Austen and her world, Emma and Elizabeth is a deeply satisfying read…’ - Austenesque Reviews A sequel to 'Emma and Elizabeth', 'Brinshore', inspired by 'Sanditon', opens in 1816. Miss Osborne and Miss Musgrave will spend the summer at a little known paradise on the south coast of England. Not far away, Captain Blake is intent on fulfilling a solemn promise. ‘Ann Mychal’s Austenesque prose is a delight…’ - Jane Austen’s Regency World Ann Mychal was awarded ‘Best Debut Author’ by Austenprose for 'Emma and Elizabeth' in 2014.

By sarah Delightful stories set in the world of Jane Austen's books - I really enjoyed both books. Both Watson Novels have really engaging heroines who I found myself emotionally connected to right away.4 Stars. Emma And Elizabeth is the story of a poor girl raised by well-off relations. Her entire world is destroyed when her uncle dies and her aunt marries a fortune-hunter and completely forgets about her niece Emma. Sent back home to the family she left as a child, Emma's goodness and kindness see her through some tough situations. The brutal realities of life are more clearly discussed and described by Ann Mychal than Jane Austen, but the charm and wit shine on both.5 stars. Brinshore is the story of Emma's grown daughter (also named Emma) and her adventures in first love, infatuation, and growing up. Most of the story takes place in the quiet seaside town of Brinshore, as Emma and her cousin and best friend blossom while enjoying a little freedom when they stay with their aunt. I thought Brinshore was a bit more delightful, the dialogue more sparkling, and the story more original, although both were wonderful. My only complaint is that I do wish some of the dialogue had more attributions - it was a little hard to follow who said what during some of the conversations, but this is a minor quibble.Highly recommended!I was lucky enough to win this book through a blog contest.

Imprisoned in Europe in 1936, a woman begins recounting the tale of her extraordinary life at the request of her captors... From her very birth in 1878, queer happenings have been the norm for Mary. With each step on her journey towards adulthood adding yet another fresh layer of oddity to her life, Mary's greatest concern is in deciding whether she can trust anyone - including herself. In part 3, as Mary becomes further acquainted with the curious inhabitants of her new tropical home of Greenhaven, she finds herself constantly inundated with conflicting philosophies of life. As her own quest for self-discovery suddenly takes a tortuous turn for the worse, Mary thinks she has found an emotional anchor in the steadying hand of Abigail only to discover that her dearest friend has her own agenda, a vision of a future as yet fully incomprehensible to Mary’s newly opening mind.

Not only does she meet the mysterious and frightening Magenta, Mary herself discovers she has extraordinary abilities beyond her understanding (and ability to handle!).The Mary Fisher series tells a unique story about a very unique heroine. Both Volume 1, The Sisters Find a New Home, and Volume 2, An Unco Body in an Unco Land, hinted at supernatural elements. Volume 3 leaves no doubt. Mary is exposed to and overwhelmed by unexplained events in the seemingly utopia town Greenhaven and by the mysterious powers of not only herself but others. Mystery abounds throughout Greenhaven. At the same time Mary must deal with her struggles towards becoming an independent adult and with her conflicting emotions with her "forever friend" Abigail. As with the first two volumes and the stand alone novel, Loggerhead, the author T. A. Peters has written an extraordinary tale with extraordinary characters who come alive in the reader's mind.

The Construction of the Self, Second Edition: Developmental and Sociocultural Foundations, by Susan Harter PhD

Review "Like the prior edition, this volume provides the most comprehensive and forward-looking overview of scholarship and theory on the construction of the self. The second edition is a major step forward--much exciting new work has been done in this area in the last 10 years. Harter offers a masterful summary and critique of this work; even more important, she gives us strong and insightful guidance for the future. Everyone interested in the construction of the self should read this book. It is an outstanding resource for seasoned researchers as well as an essential guide for young scholars entering the field and launching their research careers."--Jacquelynne S. Eccles, PhD, Distinguished Professor of Education, University of California, Irvine  "In The Construction of the Self, Second Edition, Harter shows again why she has been the preeminent scholar in child and adolescent development for over four decades. Weaving together new theoretical insights with a far-ranging review of diverse research literatures, Harter provides a masterful look at the processes through which cognitive changes and personal experiences combine to influence self-views, which in turn underlie broader patterns of social and psychological development. Harter’s perspectives on adaptive and maladaptive trajectories of self-development provide an important framework for promoting self-views that buttress positive relationships and psychological well-being."--Mark R. Leary, PhD, Department of Psychology and Neuroscience, Duke University "Harter surveys the struggle for a sense of identity and worth that individuals face from youth to old age. She offers an in-depth description of how families and cultures shape our self-concepts, and how so many of these adopted identities hamper personal growth and connectedness. On topics from motivation to mindfulness, this second edition offers both solid wisdom and new insights. Harter is truly one of developmental psychology’s luminaries."--Richard M. Ryan, PhD, Department of Clinical and Social Sciences in Psychology, University of Rochester "I have relied on The Construction of the Self as a required foundational text for my Social and Personality Development course for more than a decade, through two editions. I have found it to be the most theoretically comprehensive text on how the self develops over time, while also offering powerful and insightful practical applications. Favorite concepts with which my students and I love to engage from the Harter text include conditional positive regard and self-esteem, true-self versus false-self behavior, authenticity of self, individualistic and collectivistic cultures, the cultural self, I-self and Me-self, the looking-glass self, the personal fable, scaffolding--and the list goes on. This is a comprehensive text that brings together the self, personality, the lifespan, and interesting and diverse ecological systems, in one 440-page treasure chest!"--Michelle R. Dunlap, PhD, Department of Human Development, Connecticut College"The development of the self is a complex—sometimes difficult to comprehend—process, not easily explained by simplistic models. This book has a sophistication, empirical grounding, and clinical savvy that make it an essential book for therapists interested in individual construction of the self." (Journal of Cognitive Psychotherapy 2012-03-08)"As has been the case throughout most of Harter's distinguished career, the emphasis is on the developmental nature of self. This expands the book's importance to a broad audience, which includes parents. Highly recommended. Upper-division undergraduates through faculty and professionals; general readers." (Choice Reviews 2012-10-01)

From the Inside Flap

An important work from a leading scholar, this book explores self-development from early childhood to adulthood. Susan Harter traces the normative stages that define the emergence of many self-processes, including self-esteem. Restructured and significantly revised, the second edition reflects over a decade of conceptual, empirical, and methodological advances. It provides a broader sociocultural framework for understanding self-development and gives increased attention to the liabilities of our contemporary preoccupation with the self. Initial chapters describe how children, adolescents, and emerging adults assess their own competencies and overall worth and form a core, enduring sense of self. Harter examines the ways in which self-evaluative judgments at distinct developmental stages are shaped by both individual differences and societal influences. She shows that increasingly mature features of the self pose both benefits and risks for psychological adjustment. Subsequent chapters delve into particular characteristics and contexts of the self. Compelling topics include the links between self-esteem and physical appearance; the nature and functions of self-conscious emotions, with expanded coverage of humiliation; self-processes and motivation in the classroom; and cross-cultural research. Throughout, the book highlights the causes and consequences of different types of self-representations, including those that are unrealistically negative or positive. The integrative concluding chapter focuses on the ubiquity of false-self behavior--particularly narcissism--in today's society, identifying promising pathways for promoting authentic self-worth. Combining state-of-the-art theory and research with rich clinical insights, this authoritative volume will be read with interest by developmental, personality/social, and educational psychologists, as well as child clinical psychologists and other mental health professionals.

The Balle Trilogy is a fictional story about three members of a Ball family, one of whom lived at the same time in history as Queen Eleanor of France and England. The member of the Balle family that the story tells about, two are fictional and one historical, are from different periods in time. It is a mixture of a fiction and history telling the story of how some people who try to overcome greed and avarice succeed and some who don't. The story focuses on the first real Peasants Revolution of 1381 in Great Britain, which was in part led by John Ball.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Of Peasants and Lords By Calvin C. Brandenburg Patricia Spurlock's book, The Balle Trilogy, 'scratched where I itched' following my recent historical fiction reading of authors, Edward Rutherfurd and Ken Follet. I was still hungry for more immersion into the real, day to day people of Britain's sweep of time. Spurlock's story of the Medieval John Ball, invited my walk with both peasants and lords, glimpsing something of the best and worst of their history. I gave Spurlock's book Five Stars for launching me into new levels of understanding through its easy journey of troublesome times, the effect of systems upon people, and the inequality of the day. John Ball's life, laced with a cast of fictional co-stars, offered up the story of class development and its movement from oppression towards freedom. Spoiler alert: 'Towards' is the operative word. Spurlock deals with triumphs and tragedies and flaws and strengths, making me eager to turn each page. In addition, the book's prologue does a masterful job of both defining and describing how a condition of Good within a world of harmony and respect can shift, as "the twin Giants of greed and selflessness" bring on ever present tensions of danger and protection/struggle and deliverance. The Balle Trilogy reminds us that the story of class development has been done both well and poorly, over and over again. I recommend the book for those who enjoy historical fiction, well researched and absorbing.
