Great starting point to learn about investing By jared hughes Like Finley's first book (Financial Happiness), this book appears directed towards people with very little or no knowledge at all of investing. Frankly, most of the investing public could probably learn a lot from this book simply because people generally overlook the most basic concepts discussed here.I've read a handful of other investing books now and although they have all been good as well, they inevitably tread into deeper territory with numbers and more advanced investing concepts. The reading never gets that deep here as the topic is boiled down to its most basic concepts. I recommend that anyone with a serious interest in their money, their life in retirement or teaching their children about money should consider this book.He has a concise writing style and is excellent at making his point in a clear fashion. The chapters are very short, 2-3 pages each at most, so the book is an easy read. The author doesn't make any claims that he's going to teach you how to beat the market or get guaranteed returns for your money or any other 'to good to be true' statements. The information he presents is also easily verified in other well regarded books written over the years regarding personal investment.

I simply could not put it down. Mr. Finley does a brilliant job of blending the important aspect of mindset with some of the nuts and bolts of investing. A recurring theme throughout this book is to steer clear of fee-based advisors and instead select low-cost, no-load index mutual funds offered by companies such as Vanguard. Finley paints a very realistic picture of investing, and he doesn't pretend to be an investing guru. He gives a lot of credit for what he's learned to successful investors like John Bogle and Warren Buffett. Great book.
