Grosse Set in a world immediately familiar to fans of Elmore Leonard, he has prohibition-era Detroit evoked to a tee, with all of the grit of a Hamtramck immigrants' tenement and the ostentatious wealth of the captains of industry who live along Jefferson Avenue where it is renamed Lakeshore Drive.Now, add a simple premise: the world of Tolkien's Middle-earth exists. Its peoples and creatures live and work among us.Our tusk-toothed protagonist in this first short book is an Orc. One who is struggling to make his way in the world, and provide a life that is better for his children. To do this, he and his two brothers take on the local mob, and confront it very directly.Lucas keeps the pace moving, with an engaging first protagonist. I'm looking forward to many more in this series.
