Review "Honestly? I wish I'd read this book 20 years ago. It's a "how to" book. You'll learn how to make good project promises - through good planning - and then how to keep those promises - through good execution. Mark's advice is pragmatic, it's easy to understand and - vitally - it doesn't just work in theory, as you read it, it works in the real world." - Clarke Ching, author of Rolling Rocks Downhill rolls.rocks"Every so often you find a book that is truly worth reading and learning from. Today's post is dedicated to Mark Woeppel's new book on project management. I've known Mark for some time now and he's written quite a few books, but this one is a wow book!"-Bob Sproull, Focus and Leverage Blog

I was excited to read this book, as I'm big on bringing visual elements to project management. The title was right on the money. Unfortunately for me, it was money wasted. I was sorely disappointed and misled by the title to think that this book would present tools, steps, ideas and approaches on how to plan and execute a project with visual elements. It contains a list of common challenges and how the *concept* of visual project management can be used to overcome those challenges. Then followed by a short anecdote showcasing the results the author was able to achieve for his client by applying that concept.I was expecting to learn techniques and tools on "how to" implement visual project management, like ideas or examples on how to setup and run a Kanban project or a visual dashboard or visual planning... As another reviewer put it, it was "All 'what' and no 'how'". Big disappointment. The only thing "groundbreaking" about this book was what happened after I slammed it on the floor in anger for having wasted several hours reading it hoping to find a gem or two but left with lost time.Dear author - I know you're trying to build your career and making a name for yourself by releasing a book, and I'm sure majority of your reviews are from your colleagues. It pains me to write a critical review, but I lost my money and more importantly my time on this and I owe an honest review to the community. Please consider the value you are selling to people with your book as your betting with your reputation for releasing it. I cordially wish you better luck in your future endeavor.

By Customer This is an excellent book for learning how to practically and effectively execute projects. Mark does a great job of covering theory, practice, and examples for the methods he describes. His recommended actions are elegant, practical, and effective. I have used them myself and realized similar results. If you are involved with projects and struggling to deliver, or just want to improve your current methods, I strongly recommend reading (and testing!) this approach.

Through 18 chapters, Mark speaks to a number of problems present in traditional project management techniques, many of which I found myself readily agreeing with, and then the countermeasures for combating each respective problem that he calls "ViewPoint" project management. That would be just fine, if he explained how to implement ViewPoint! As I read the book I found myself constantly saying "This sounds good - so how do I implement it?" and then realized about half way through that I wasn't going to get answers to that question. Sure enough, in Chapter 19 (the last chapter) the author says "So now that you understand the philosophy and principles...how do you make it happen?" Unfortunately for us, that chapter is only a handful of pages long and missing any detail that could make this book truly useful.
