A century and a half ago, just before the Cherokee people were driven at bayonet-point from their ancestral Great Smokies home to the Oklahoma reservation, they hid their gold mines. Four thousand died on that infamous Trail of Tears, and their secrets died with them. Now, solitary prospector Moses Kyle discovers one of the ancient lost mines. And disappears. Among those looking for Moses are pilot John Hardin and Cherokee biker Kitty Birdsong. But also on the hunt in the misty folds of the Blue Ridge is a murderous family clan rooted in the worst kind of evil, along with a group of cult members led by a fanatical snake-handling preacher. When naked greed erupts into violence, John and Kitty must fight for their lives. “A beautifully written high-octane thriller.” —Ridley Pearson. NY Times best-selling author.

About the Author Phil is a lifelong freelance writer with 300 articles and short stories published in national magazines including Reader's Digest, The Saturday Evening Post, Grit, Harpers, Troika, Yankee, Overdrive, Heartland USA, MAKE, and several boating and aviation publications. He writes the John Hardin suspense series, and has a collection of his short stories available that includes an award-winning tale begun by Stephen King. He was born and raised in the Berkshires of western Massachusetts, and thus has an abiding love of the mountains, one reason his suspense novels are set largely in the Great Smokies, which he visits as often as possible. Phil is an instrument-rated pilot, a Coast Guard-licensed master mariner, a motorcycle rider, an astronomy buff, and a fiddler. He’s a voracious reader of everything and likes to walk the ocean beaches to exercise his body and his imagination. He lives in eastern North Carolina on a shore of the wide Neuse River, where he’s at work on several short stories and his next novel. Visit him at www.philbowie.com

This story is based on religion, greed and sexual abuse.Believable characters, interesting and informative dialogue. Easy to follow storyline.Discussing Religion:"Trouble is, they get to believing their various particular versions of the dream so strongly, out of their fear, they’ll even torture and kill each other over it."There are several good-natured "can you answer this" questions about Westerns. This story is excellent. I doubt I will re-read it. I do look forward to other woks by this author.

Descriptions were still as good as Louis L'Amour would do, but action towards the end was a bit limp! I enjoy a bit more shoot-em-up versus great views of the crazy religious dudes! At least, at the end, John Hardin got all the bad guys one way or another. Justice prevailed in the beauty of the Cherokee, Smoky Mountains!
