Can anyone alive today say that the community where Mary lived did not behave in this manner By Modupe Hendricks I loved the story, One Called Mary: And The Birth of the Christ Child. The author indicated he combined the scripture with historical Middle Eastern Culture and traditions to create this story. I agree that anything is possible for God; nevertheless, people tend to follow their culture and traditions. No one can say with certainty that this story of Mary’s pregnancy and the behavior of community did not happen in this manner. I think the story is beautiful and I highly recommend it.

About the Author Nell K. Duke, Ed.D., is a professor of language, literacy, and culture and faculty associate in the combined program in education and psychology at the University of Michigan. Duke received her Bachelor's degree from Swarthmore College and her Masters and Doctoral degrees from Harvard University. Duke's work focuses on early literacy development, particularly among children living in poverty. Her specific areas of expertise include development of informational reading and writing in young children, comprehension development and instruction in early schooling, and issues of equity in literacy education. She currently serves as Co-Principal Investigator on projects funded by the Institute of Education Sciences, the National Science Foundation, and the Spencer Foundation. Duke is the recipient of the American Educational Research Association Early Career Award, the Literacy Research Association Early Career Achievement Award, the International Reading Association Dina Feitelson Research Award, the National Council of Teachers of English Promising Researcher Award, and the International Reading Association Outstanding Dissertation Award. Nell is author and co-author of numerous journal articles and book chapters as well as the books Reading and Writing Informational Text in the Primary Grades: Research-Based Practices; Literacy and the Youngest Learner: Best Practices for Educators of Children from Birth to Five; Beyond Bedtime Stories: A Parent's Guide to Promoting Reading, Writing, and Other Literacy Skills From Birth to 5; and her most recent book, Reading and Writing Genre with Purpose in K - 8 Classrooms. This book is an amazing resource for educators at all levels By Literacy teacher This book is an amazing resource for educators at all levels, from classroom teachers to literacy coaches, administrators, and instructors of pre-service teachers. As a former coach and reading teacher who is back in the classroom, I find this book offers the insight and guidance that I need for my predominantly ELL 5th graders. Lesaux and Russ Harris present ways that teachers and school communities can re-think some of the ways we look at our English Learners as readers and move to a more holistic view of language learning and knowledge building. What is exciting about their approach is that they address a big gap in reading instruction that includes knowledge building and more academic language support in deep and thoughtful ways. They really open up a way of thinking about instruction that has been missing from a lot of professional conversations about closing the gap among different populations of students.In addition to providing a solid and very accessible way of bringing their research into classroom practice, this book is a practical workbook for implementing units of study to build academic content knowledge, word learning, comprehension and communication skills. Their suggestions are clear and easy to follow and would benefit many students, not just ELs. In my school, we are using this book in PLCs to help us rethink some of our RTI services, as well as tweaking general classroom practice to incorporate more academic content instruction.Teachers who struggle with ways to bring more content area instruction into their teaching will appreciate the way the authors break down the planning of unit cycles to make things manageable and actually do-able! I am excited by the work that is happening in my school as a result of this book and I think it will appeal to a wide audience. This book is a welcome addition to my professional reading collection.

The Amazon Book Launch

How to Write a Book, Publish the book on Amazon, and Sell Paperbacks through CreateSpace My name is Nicholas and I've written a bunch of books. At this point in my writing life I have probably published more than 60 books — some under my name, and some under other people's names as well as some ghost written projects. I have been working with some other authors on helping them develop their thoughts into books, and I've even written two fairly extensive books on both writing a novel and launching those novels. It’s an incredibly rich subject that needs to be fleshed out for new and seasoned authors alike. I realized at some point though that there was information overload as I looked at the various ‘get published’ titles. This book is a much more buttoned down approach, with the mindset that publishing is really a simpler task than most people realize. This is especially true in a world surrounded by all kinds of assistive technologies. Now, I'm not going to tell you that it's easy to write a book (even though it is if you focus on a subject you intimately understand). Products like Nuance’s Dragon Dictate make your writing so much more efficient. Now, I'm not advertising or advocating their products, but boy do they make life easy. The book you are reading took me one hour to produce. One f’ing hour! In fact, it took me longer to develop out the book cover then it did to write the entire book. I did have to go back and place several screen pictures (captures) here and there, and that took an additional 30 or so minutes. The cover itself took about 35 or 40 minutes. But on the morning I woke up and had the idea for this book, it was live on Amazon by the next morning. And that includes Amazon taking their sweet ass time in getting the book listed (which ended up being about eight hours from when I push the ‘PUBLISH’ button). I decided to write this book after I performed an experiment. I wanted to boil everything down to its absolute smallest ingredients as they concern book publishing on Amazon. I focused on five main areas: 1. Writing the e-book 2. Designing the cover 3. Publishing the book 4. Publishing the paperback book 5. Bonus: Your Launch Strategy! I'm going to give you the very most basic detail you will need to get your book out there and selling. Yes, you should probably get several proofreaders and an editor. Yes, you could go out and hire someone to do your book cover, or run a contest on 99designs and pay $200 or $300 to get a cover design. I usually spend $10 on Fiverr and get the thing done in a day. There are a million books on launch strategy and capitalizing on free downloads, Kindle Unlimited, blah blah blah. Yes, all of those things are important, but I'm not going to focus on them in this book. As it comes about I will give you links that are appropriate, and some of those will be links to my projects, and some of them will be links to other people's projects. I make my living selling fiction — I highly doubt that this book is going to be more than a rounding error in my monthly income, but it definitely serves a purpose, and I think people are tired of these long-winded, BS, self-aggrandizing books where some guy spends 95 pages trying to sell you his book, and six pages teaching you how to publish yours. Wouldn't you love to write a book today? Literally pump that sucker out and have it listed and selling by tonight or tomorrow? Well . . . you can. Motivating, easy to understand By Michelle McBain I was skeptical on getting this book but the author is very clear and maps everything out step by step. I have always wanted to write but was daunted by the whole process of what to do in order to get published. No longer, I am putting together my outline today!

Sure, maybe he makes money writing, on the bases of, if you throw enough sh*t at the wall some of it sticks.People seem to be far less critical of crap than they once where. I've spent my life dealing with books one way or another and junk like this makes my skin crawl. This is not even up to the quality of the old pulp magazines who paid, if you were any good, as much as a penny a word.I'm always interested in books on writing, publishing etc. But I'm only interested in quality and integrity of the art, not garbage heaps like this. There are much better options available, read the intro, take a look inside, if it lacks quality, if there are spelling and grammar mistakes, leave it and find someone who really knows what they are talking about. Bulk packagers could care less about quality, their only interest is separating you and your money to their benefit.Keep Looking, this is a definite pass, I throw out better quality than this with the bath water!!

By Miz J I hope this "author" outsources his writing because within the first three pages I found run-ons, comma splices, and grammatical mistakes in abundance. Using "in" for "and"? Really? Can't take this seriously. It's too poorly written.

Storrs Macabre, suspenseful and poignant - GS Johnston is expert in drawing the reader into a story that explores both a chilling set of murders as well as the tender devotion of an ill fated mother for her husband and her slain children.Set in the Second Empire of France, the novel is written from two perspectives that are interwoven seamlessly: Hortense, the murdered wife, and Monsieur Claude, the driven Chief Inspector. As Claude hastens to unravel the mystery of whether the enigmatic Jean-Baptiste Troppmann is indeed the architect of the brutal crime, I found myself drawn inexorably to the final moments of Hortense's life as though watching a movie - one hand over my eyes to avoid the sight of inevitable horror yet unable to stop peeking. Johnston is adept at portraying Troppmann as vulnerable, manipulative, cruel and yet ultimately courageous while always keeping the reader's sympathies firmly with Hortense. Rich in history that has clearly been rigorously researched, Johnston brings Paris to life in a time where corruption remained deeply entrenched despite the veneer of newly paved boulevardes and grand buildings.From the electrifying beginning where the dying Hortense lies in her shallow grave, to the grotesque denouement in a Paris jail, A Cast of a Hand grips the reader in a way the ensures tired eyes from reading late into the night and thereafter pondering the melancholic intricacies of murder, justice and a woman's love.

By TABHairoun This story is told in two narratives, an approach that most writers do not do very well. Johnston, however, weaves the two together so well you hardly even notice you are bouncing between them. It's a flow that is not only natural, but amazingly right for this story. I always love how he writes his characters in his books. He gives you just enough description to paint your own picture, not force the author's image on you. That said, somehow he manages to make every character so rich and vibrant. You'll swear he described them in detail because you see them in your mind as if they were right in front of you. You understand them. You pity them, you love them, and at times you hate them.Settle in if you open this book up...you're not going to want to put it down.

By Ian Thomson We live in a world where the media reporting of the college shootings, serial killers and crimes of passion often grasp at our attention for their online headlines. But how better to set the horror of such dramatic acts into context, than to explore the archetypal nature of such crimes and their perpetrators. In G. S. Johnston’s historical recreation of the murder of Hortense Knick and her children on the outskirts of Paris in the 1860’s, the author offers us a complex and insightful ‘blick’ into the interweaving of the social, medial, legal and political machinations that follow the gruesome discovery and the pursuit of the suspected murderer. But all is not as it may first seem, as the complacent husband, the mercenary suspect, the forensically minded investigator and the self-affirming palmist become hurtled down a labyrinth of questions about whether we are forced to, or born to kill. A historical view on the ‘nature or nurture’ question of murder, that is a relevant today as it was during the trial at the turn of the 19th century. Riveting reading.

It does have a lot of black shading already on the images and some may not like that so I recommend that you use the "look inside" feature before ordering. These are more artistic rendition of the characters not really cutesy versions. And many of the images are repeat patterns or border prints. Arrived on time and in great condition.

I bought this for my sister in law for Christmas who is a huge Alice in Wonderland fan. She was thrilled with it, I can't wait until the newer ones come out and I can get those for her as well. Very pleased with our purchase!

Highly recommend When Young Children Neen Help: By judith weinstock After reading much of When Young Children Need Help....it is clear to me that this is a an extremely useful book for those who work with young children. Deborah's insight, knowledge, and amazing gift in the field of early childhood mental health comes through loud and clear. Her writing is clear, engaging and informative. I was able to use the anecdotes she shares with staff with whom I work when considering how to scaffold and support children whose challenging behaviors have impacted their ability to succeed in the classroom. Deborah has many thoughts and suggestions of how to set up a positive environment that leads to successful outcomes. Deborah's respect for children, families and teachers with whom she consults is inspiring as is her collaborative approach and problem solving that results from her work with teams.I highly recommend this book for teachers, administrators as well a mental health consultants.

I couldn't wait to read about the deep observations the author had about children and her solutions. It reads like an excellent mystery. Even though I don't work with children, it gave me great insight into my own young children's history, my personal pre-school experience and learning about all the children of friends I've know who have experienced a difficult time in those early years. The stories about the children are beautifully written and the step by step discoveries about them are clear and insightful. In addition, the photographs, are sensitive and evocative. This is an important book to read for everyone.

Up to date thinking about the needs of young children and about ways to help those in need is conveyed in the most readable form and conveyed through real life stories and examples. On reflection it is a very learned book, but its lessons are utterly down to earth and brought to life by the experiences of the author. I found myself wanting to read ahead to find out how and whether the strategies of help really worked (and of course they do), and in the process gaining insights in ways to help kids with tough developmental challenges. Great learning, great read - a very unusual and delightful combination.

If you want a study guide that will not only give you the information you need to know for the test but also the tools you need to do well, then you’ve found the right guide. This guide really does have all of the details in it that you need to know for the test and that’s great. But the guide also gives you study secrets that can help you get the information off the guide and into your head. And the guide has test taking tips too that can help you avoid stupid little mistakes you may have made on tests in the past that then cost you precious points. About the Author About Our AuthorsSandra Rush is a best-selling author acclaimed for making mathematics easier to grasp. She has taught math and physics at both the secondary and college levels. As an undergraduate majoring in math at Temple University, Ms. Rush tutored students at Philadelphia public schools, which sparked her interest in teaching. Ms. Rush has written test-preparation guides for all ages, with her approach continually informed by her one-on-one tutoring and coaching.Julie O’Connell is an associate professor of English at Felician University, where, beginning in fall 2016, this book is being used as part of a Praxis Core review course led by Dr. O'Connell. Dr. O’Connell was chair of Developmental Studies at Felician from 2010 to 2013. From 2000 to 2010, she served as director of Felician's Writing Lab. The three tests in the Praxis Core battery gauge academic skills and content knowledge in three areas:

WHAT’S ON THE TESTSWe'll break down the Praxis Core tests for you in just a minute, but first a little background. The Praxis Core tests are used to comprehensively assess the academic skills and content knowledge of teacher candidates. They're typically taken early in your college career for entry into educator preparation programs. In addition, many states require Praxis Core scores for you to secure your teaching license.

These tests are used in more than 30 states and territories, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. Department of Defense Education Activity, which serves children of active duty military and DoD civilian families.

The Praxis Core comprises three tests:

• Reading—Rich with passages (sometimes presented in pairs), this test asks you to pick out key ideas and details, and to make logical inferences. You'll find questions drawn from informational documents and other nonfiction texts. The test also places emphasis on interpretation of words and phrases based on author intent. Mainly, these are standard multiple-choice questions that ask you to find the best answer. However, you'll also see some that have multiple correct answers; you won't be told how many, but such questions may have fewer response options than one-answer items.

• Writing—This test is divided into a multiple-choice section and two 30-minute essay sections. The first section puts you through your paces on usage, sentence correction, revision in context, and research skills. The two essays require very different approaches—in the first case, presenting an effective argument; in the second, analyzing a topic based on source material given to you.

• Mathematics—This test features mainly standard multiple-choice items with one best answer. But, as with the Reading test, be on the lookout for a few questions that require more than one correct answer. The Math test also includes numeric-entry questions. An on-screen four-function calculator that also computes square roots is provided to help you avoid simple arithmetic errors.

The Praxis Core tests are a regeneration, or rewriting, of the Praxis I Pre-Professional Skills Tests, or PPST, by Educational Testing Service (ETS) to reflect the more demanding Common Core State Standards adopted by most states. The new tests also align with the College and Career Readiness Standards released by the U.S. Department of Education in 2013. Like the PPST battery, these new tests are gateway assessments, designed to evaluate your proficiency in basic academic skills as you prepare to begin your teaching career. Most students take a computer-delivered test. However, students with ADA accommodations may qualify to take a paper-based version. For more information, visit the ETS website at www.ets.org/praxis.

ETS has updated its tests to measure better what teachers should know and be able to do as they implement the Common Core State Standards in their classrooms. The Common Core standards were developed by the Council of Chief State School Officers and the National Governors Association Center for Best Practices. 11 of 11 people found the following review helpful. There is a lot of good information in the book though By Kristin Decent for the money, but don't be fooled by the practice tests. I scored 66% on all of my reading comprehension practice tests with this book, but I scored 200/200 on the actual test. I've never had a problem with reading comprehension so I did not think I would have a problem on the exam even though the study program seemed to say otherwise. There is a lot of good information in the book though, so if you're looking for a quick review of concepts it's not too bad for the price.

An Essential Test Prep Tool By Elizabeth Breau This new Praxis Core book is noteworthy for its thoughtful lay-out, thorough review of the basics, and encouraging can-do tone. In my work as a private tutor, I often assess test preparation materials, and based on my experience with a current student who is using it to prepare for the Praxis, I know I will recommend it to others in the future. In particular, the lists and charts of key writing elements, such as transition words and the different kinds of rhetorical devices, are an especially review tools. Similarly, the book’s reviews of fundamentals in math, reading, and writing are appropriately targeted to the skill levels of many aspiring teachers. The book’s tone is friendly and encouraging, and the six practice tests and online materials provide a comprehensive course of preparation from which test-takers of all levels can benefit.

Although this book is a good review for the subjects tested on the Praxis exam By Renata Although this book is a good review for the subjects tested on the Praxis exam, it has numerous mistakes. For example, on page 72 it states "anything squared is even," last time I checked 3 squared = 9, 5 squared = 25, 7 squared = 49, etc. Page 114 states "0 is less than or equal to -3, which is true," again, last time I checked 0 is greater than -3. On the answer key for the reading practice test #1 (page 454), it gave one of the answers as C, D, and E, but in the explanation of the answers (page 457) it only gave the answers as C and E, and so on and so forth. I have found many other mistakes in this book, and therefore I do not trust it as my only guide to studying for the Praxis.
