About the Author Sally Demaray Hull wrote her first novel at age seventeen: The Trail Beyond. She set the manuscript aside when she left her home in Gladwin Michigan for college in Canada at Toronto Baptist Seminary and Bible College. Following this three year course, she attended Mid Michigan Community College and Central Michigan University, studying to be a teacher. After college, she pulled out the manuscript of The Trail Beyond and rewrote it. Over the years she has rewritten it a dozen times. Shortly after the first re-write, she wrote a sequel: Beyond the Trail. The next thing she knew, she was writing fulltime. (Some years later, when rewriting Beyond the Trail, Sally realized that there was enough material for two books and so the second half of Beyond the Trail became: The Timberton Trail.) Over the years she became her parents’ caregiver, a teacher in a Christian school and a substitute teacher in the public schools. She also taught TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) in China for two years and earned her TESOL certificate from the Canadian National Institute. Though she has had various occupations, writing has always been present in her life. Most of her book covers are from the photos her husband Charlie has taken, being a photographer and a writer himself. Sally’s desire is that her books help people to know God better.

It is a refreshing Christian story about everyday life of a large family. It is nice not to have swearing nor sex scenes but still have a great story. The people aren't perfect but with God's help, they do their best. I enjoyed watching the children grow up, especially with dating.

It's a tough life, but Rachel and Patrick are adamant that the children should have an education. The children learn value lessons as well as their regular school subjects. They are also encouraged to become Christian, but not pushed. As time goes on, Patrick and Rachel take on more children and have three of their own. Rachel tries to help each child develop his or her own talents. The Trails Series is great reading!

Continuing to love the expanding O'Riley family By Mary Jane Kail As the O'Riley family grows the community of Timberton is faced with the possibility of becoming a memory as the lumbermen are going to move on & leave the families with homes they can't afford to leave, no money to move, no protection from wandering outlaws, no general store to buy their supplies. They must decide if their tiny town can survive. This is a story of faith & putting God's will first. It was so inspiring to me & I look forward to reading the last book in the series.

I impressed myself By kbw1.0 So glad to have found this book.The writer give so many tools and tips on memory retention and recall, it's really exactly what I have been needing.Usually good with 2-3 new people's names, what I read last night I used at this mornings meeting with 9 new to me peopleand I could look at them all during the meeting and call their name immediately, I impressed myself.

But when I find myself straining to recall simple things or shorts lists - what I need at the store, who my clients are that day, people not to forget to email/call - I find myself saying in my head, "Your '40' is showing". There’s no question about it - my mental acuity is dulling.What I LOVE about Luis Angel’s coaching methods is that it distills the steps of memorizing names (memorizing anything!), into a few, easy, doable steps. I see many clients every day - some very regularly, some only three or four times a year. Luis Angel’s methods are fundamental and consistent. With just a little bit of practice using Luis Angel’s techniques, I can create associations that trigger my memory so that I don't have to strain to remember things, lists, people… whatever I wish to retain.It never ceases to amaze me how much clients appreciate that you remember them by name. Having the skills to practice remembering names is an INVALUABLE asset to my job, and makes me so much more efficient on a daily basis. I’m really enjoying developing and keeping my mental edge.

It is her hope that college students as well as those of all ages will glean from its teachings and drink deeply of the Living Water. When Lynne gave her life to the Lord at age fourteen, God proved Himself faithful. 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Highs and lows By Postscripter This is well written story of religious and political intrigue in Elizabethan England. However it is not without some rather large flaws.It is the story of the healer Beatrice and the Earl of Southampton, who are fleeing together to London to escape an accusation of witchcraft levelled at Beatrice. On their way they join up with a group of players, including Will Shakespeare. From the moment the story started, I was involved with characters. Steffensen did an excellent job of recreating of how quickly a community could dissolve into violence, and the constant fear this could create in both high and low of the time.I thought the first half of the book was amazing. It had good pace, and both events as well as character development seemed to flow and grow together in a natural direction. Then the book stalls. Beatrice seems to lose all of her common sense, intelligence, and displays an unbelievable ignorance of the social and political realities of the day. This is as well as a stubborness in matters medical and love, which I found less admirable than plain foolhardy. Henry, who seems to be getting clued in about Uncle Cecil and religion in the beginning, seems to take a giant step back in the middle, and so is somewhat annoying.On the subject of Shakespeare, there is also some good and bad. I found the way the Steffenson brought up and handled the question of how a glover's son could write as Shakespeare did, well done indeed. I am looking forward to the answer. I also enjoyed his interpretations into messages. I do wish he had allowed Shakespeare a little more freedom as to how he was inspired by events, and had not tied him so close to the events of the story. Perhaps then both the second half of the book, and the characters would regain the conviction they had in the first half.Final comment, the book resumes some of its flow near the end. Henry, at least, makes a recovery. However this is brought about by the actions of Dr. Lopez. Even in the beginning I am unsure whether his accusation is made out a simple wish to save his own skin by deflecting suspicion, or a real belief in witches. What is made clear, is that he feels, by the way Lord Russel handles the matter, that he is best out of it, and that the whole issue has become a danger to him. Why then, when Beatrice clearly has taken no actions against him at court, would he stir matters up once again? It seems very contrived, as if Steffenson needed a way to bring matters to a point.I would give this book 3.5. I feel that the author betrays the characters created in the beginning, and perhaps the flow as well, in order to write the story as preconceived. I may be very wrong about this, but once the story moves to London, it loses much of its sparkle, and I was often surprised by how the author chose to portray Henry and Beatrice. I am rounding it up to a 4 star for an amazing first half, and a really good recreation of Elizabethan England

ALL levels are decodable, using words with short vowels. Words go up from simple CVC patterns (Consonant-Vowel-Consonant) “dog, rat, pig”, to more complex blends “stuff, melt, swept”, but since the books still use short vowels and basic sight words, children are able to read them correctly, while enjoying the stories and illustrations. Created by a reading and dyslexia tutor, these short vowel books with fun illustrations help children learn to read. The background color on each page helps remove distortions caused by visual processing difficulties. Note to parents and teachers: The first few pages of each book lists "Words to Know" in a box. The words in the box are tricky words. They may be sight words that can’t be “sounded out”, or just words that need explicit instruction.  Teach these to your child before starting the story. Reading is easier and smoother if the child is already familiar with these words.

She felt very grown up being able to read to me. As an educator myself, I can say this author really knows about literacy development and decodable books. I would highly recommend to anyone!
