Jan grew up on the Yakima Indian Reservation and some might wonder if this is a true story or just a reflection of the things that went on -- romanticized in this compelling novel? The characters in the book are all very complex and will keep you on the edge of your seat. Jan is a brilliant writer and this book is a wild ride. Hang on!

(Approx. 357,000 words or 950 pages total.) The world of Arkaria is a dangerous place, filled with dragons, titans, goblins and other dangers. He is supposed to be the "hero", but never comes across as one. The slew of supporting characters that are introduced are so flat that I couldn't really tell one from the other. In other words, I just didn't care about what happened to anybody in the story since the author never gave me a reason to care. There are guilds that are made up of immature one dimensional characters that soul purpose is to steal "loot" and "booty". The interactions between the characters are forced and obtuse.Every cliche you could think about in a fantasy setting is used. Reading this book felt like I was playing a poorly designed D&D video game. Meet strangers, immediately go on "quests" to collect loot and magical items to boost your abilities (level up), then teleport back to the guild hall. Get another "quest", go try to steal something from some fantasy based race.. teleport back to the guild hall... Wash, rinse, repeat. The guild that is focused upon in this story is supposed to be some "defenders of the weak" or some such cliche, but all they are is a bunch of bumbling thieves that rush into an "adventure" to get rich. This was not a good read at all.

It was recommended to me by BookBub.com. This book was a four star delight.Book 1 Defender. Cyrus Davidon is an adventurer/leader of a guild which consists of him and two close friends. As it is with any small guild they are only able to take on small task that do not pay well or produce big treasure. Ah we know it well starting off a new character. Oops I mean beginning a new book. Anyway, they get an opportunity to join in a mega quest with mostly novice adventures and some veteran adventures sprinkled in. This is how Cyrus meets Sanctuary a medium size guild that has established alliances with two other guilds. Well this leads to adventuring my friend and not rats in the cellar kind either. The thing that intrigued me about the story is there is some kind of dark future coming and Cyrus, with his side quest for a legendary item, seems to be in the middle of it. It’s true it reads like a video game. I have played games and thought, “How would this be as a book?” Now I know how it would read. The things you take for granted in a great video game are tougher to equate too mentally in a book. Such as a resurrection spell that cures you after being crushed. However, I grew up playing these mostly awesome games so I am ok with it.The other thing of note is the story is being told in the past and the present. Just in case you don’t like that kind of thing, now you know.Book 2 Avenger Can Sanctuary survive, devious plots from the members within, the politics of the major races around them, the accusation that they or their members are raiding convoys, and possible betrayal in the alliances and is that the sound of war drums? You will have to read this second installment to find out.Cyrus becomes even more important to the existence of Sanctuary as they try to be the guild based on helping others and strong ethics. There is much going against them and they will have to fight not only monsters to survive but the coming of war.I don’t know Avenger can be said without Assemble after it. Every time I say the name I want to yell Assemble. Anyway, book two continues to build the Cyrus legend and is has better storytelling.Book 3 Champion There is war, assassins, even more betrayal and Cyrus is having a midlife crisis. All this and Sanctuary must deal the elves’ rulers, goblins, humans’ council, and the war has come to the land. This is the best book yet of this series. I felt truly emotional invested in Champion. Robert has fallen into his stride with this book, but I have not yet made the mental move to invest in book 4 Crusader. In conclusion I gave this set a four star, which would have been a five if they all were on the same order as Champion. It is worth a read and good book hunting.Reviewer’s After Note: After reading reviews not just for this book but book reviews in general on Amazon, I have decided to include this note with all my reviews. My reviews will reflect on some of the following, if not all; story, characters, enjoyment or lack of enjoyment, plot, overall thought, background and would I recommend the book to you the reader. You will not find any editing, grammar or structure critique unless it would be unique for the reader or the story is completely unreadable. In regards to the self-published authors they are just that, self-published. There is no large corporation with huge staffs of cover artiest, editors, typesetters, and so on. What most bothers me are the reviewers that say a book was unreadable when I know the mind can actual make out words with the letters in the wrong order. This is to say that many of these books are free to several dollars in price, if it bothered me this much I would stick with big publishing companies. For all of you impeccable, unimpeachable, unassailable readers this review is not for you.

A world that has Elves, trolls, titans, dragons and more that keep you enthralled, a world that has plenty of adventure and deceit, treachery, friendships, pain and love. As these stories unfold here and in the later books you see all the characters actually grow into who they all really are. One of my favorite things about this series is how Cyrus and the rest of the main characters have this fun and funny at times banter that goes back and forth (even at the most inopportune times) a witty sense of humor that always come in at the right moments. Also great is the amount of action that takes place, both in large scale battles to the small things that are "behind the scenes". This isn't one of those books or authors who keeps everything status quo, nope they evolve as the world of Arkaria changes around them. Hands down one of the best Epic Fantasy series I have ever read, far and away my favorite of any work out right now.A read you will not want to put down until you are finished.

The illustration are by BroMiguel, and are perfect for either a little boy or a little girl who might by into cars. The story is perfect for a child 7 and under. It's pretty easy for a 6 or 7 year old reader to read on their own. Also, for parents to read with or to their younger children. There is more to the book, but it is a short story and I don't like giving out all the details.

By Poppy Calvert As a PA, trying to describe to a non-PA what you on a daily basis is impossible. Every hour is different, and every day a surprise, and by the time each evening comes the morning's tasks are a distant memory. By some feat of magic, Angela manages to break down the role of the PA into bite-sized digestible chunks. Not only is this book a comprehensive how-to for PAs, it is a reminder of how important the role of the PA is in the workplace. Truly motivational and inspiring, this is a must read for any PA!

Laced with romance and treachery. Swaddled around a ship that sank and became embedded below the waters of Manhattan island some 350 years ago. Olé Amsterdam shares center stage with a band of contemporary amateur treasure hunters in this tale where the action is as rapid as the trading on Wall Street. Any reader possessing a scintilla of sleuth in their DNA can join up with the ghostly spirit of Peter Stuyvesant in a hunt that upon initial introduction seems most improbable – yet boldly possible. The theatre -- Manahactanienk (island of many hills) The story begins in 1674 as an approaching storm rapidly builds to hurricane force coursing havoc for the passengers and crew aboard ‘da Urchin’. Before the Dutch Fluyt could make the Strand to dock we’re thrust forward into contemporary New York where Gus Savvas third generation excavator and the story’s protagonist is overseeing the burial of his father Nick. “FUNERALS SUCK” is the consensus taken by two: Gus’ chum and NYU archeology professor Chase Warren and the books narrator Peter Stuyvesant. Within days Gus and Chase are rummaging through the family’s attic only to find a crude drawing where the letters R C H are rendered into what seems to be a plank of wood. Several days later Chase pays a visit to the City Archives and meets up with Beth the department’s Assistant Manager. Together they stumble upon similar initials identifying a ship, ‘Da Urchin’ as one dating back to the mid-17th century and Peter Stuyvesant’s arrival in New Amsterdam. Later that day the ships manifest is found revealing the presence of gold bullion and minted coins as part of its cargo. The gold and coins were requisitioned by Stuyvesant to replenish the treasury so that improvements could be made to restore the colony and eliminate the horrid, squalid conditions he had inherited. Unbeknownst to either Beth or Chase, only the passengers made it ashore due to a mysterious explosion that sank the Urchin. Once that information surfaces a hunt is planned. I can learn more about it, as well as connect what I already know or already pertain and add more features to it. That was very great about this experience. The game plan was an aspect I liked about it, that fact that it is a journey to self-confidence because it so rightfully is. It mentions goals and how to not over-achieve the goals you make, you know, start small and then work your way up. Know how to limit yourself and know what you can achieve. Keep positive and have that mindset, because, without it, it might be very hard to be able to fulfill this journey. I loved how the chapters moved gradually, I didn't get the vibe that someone who was writing this didn't have self-confidence or didn't believe what they were writing. I believe it and it was very inspirational. It's going to be tough and what isn't? I just really enjoyed learning something new about confidence and learning how to become more confident. Learning things I didn't actually know and adding those to the things I did.

Great little book with tips on how to improve yourself By Ellen Kammerer If you are struggling to build confidence in yourself and want to take the necessary steps to better self-esteem, then this is the book for you. Not only does this quick read give you proven steps to building confidence, but it will help you achieve positive thinking and an overall positive mental attitude every day. This is a great book to start improving your self-image.Oberman begins the book with a simple definition of what exactly self-confidence is, so you will have a better understanding of how you can achieve it through self-efficacy and self-esteem. He then explains that becoming more self confident is a journey, so you not only need to prepare yourself, but you need to have a clear path and the ability to take the first step toward your goal. Most importantly, this book outlines the best way to seem confident, even when you don’t feel confident. Lets face it, whether you have tons of self-confidence or not, not everyone feels confident all the time.I would certainly recommend this book for anyone who is trying to better improve themselves.

Very helpful By Pearl Angeli I find this book very helpful, most especially to people like me who doesn’t have the guts and confidence most of the time. Upon reading the content of this book, I realized that being less confident is not a bad thing, unless you intend to stay that way forever. The book basically teaches some tips on how to get out of your comfort zone and be the self-assured person you want yourself to be. I realized that setting out goals is indeed very important as well as focusing on your achievements. Although some of the tips are really difficult and almost impossible to do, the book made some really remarkable points and I think that’s the important thing.

By Mike Rodgers This is the second book of Whitmore's planned trilogy chronicling the Armstrongs, an Ohio family tied inexorably to significant events in American history. A Bit of Colored Ribbon begins shortly before and unfolds during the Civil War. Marcus Armstrong is deeply involved in the Underground Railroad, a network of abolitionists who secretly move runaway slaves from Southern plantations to freedom in Canada. The abolitionists run afoul of slave catchers who use the legality of the Fugitive Slave Act to capture the runaways and take them back to servitude or death at the hands of their owners.Marcus Armstrong believes in what he's doing, but wants to do more to help the cause when war finally comes. He meets a runaway slave named Nat, who is seeking his freedom, but also wants to find another runaway, a former slave named Emma, with whom he is in love. The novel plays out over the course of the war through the movements of the 65th Ohio Volunteer Infantry. The lives of Marcus and Nat are intertwined throughout the conflict.Whitmore has done an admirable, thorough job of research, carefully laying out the details of the grubby, desperate daily existence of soldiers onboth sides of the war. He also does not shy away from the prejudices and hatred facing the slaves in the South as well as in the North. Readers will care about the fates of the characters who move through this story. This is a very good book, particularly the sections that look at the operations of the Underground Railroad and the courage displayed by those who risked their lives for the freedom of others. This is an excellent sequel to his first novel, The Last Roar, which began the story of the Armstrong family during the tumultuous times of the War of 1812.

I enjoyed this title more because it was character driven. Plus, I prefer reading about the Civil War more. I am from Ohio so I recognized many of the places mentioned. The characters were well developed and based on real life people and events from the past. It took me a bit to get the rhythm of the dialect in the opening of the novel. The dialect does play a role in the story line. I am looking forward to reading the 3rd installment to see where the story goes.
