PDF Ebook Online Teaching and Learning in a Diverse World: Multicultural Education for Young Children, Fourth Edition (Early Childhood Education Series), by Patricia G. Ramsey

How can we create truly multicultural classrooms? In this new edition of her popular text, renowned early childhood educator Patricia Ramsey draws on a wide range of research and practice from different communities around the world to further explore the complexities of raising and teaching young children in a world fraught with societal divisions and inequities.Using engaging examples and stories, this comprehensive volume offers concrete suggestions to encourage teachers to reflect on their own histories and experiences and to challenge and rethink their assumptions and attitudes toward children and teaching. This new, up-to-date edition describes research-based classroom practices to engage children in exploring the complexities of race, economic inequities, immigration, environmental issues and sustainability, gender and sexual orientation and identities, and abilities and disabilities. It also addresses the challenges of teaching in the context of globalization, pervasive social media, and increasing standards and accountability.

 Book Features:

  • Addresses social and economic inequities and how they affect staff relationships, interactions with parents, and children’s classroom experiences.
  • Offers strategies to help teachers initiate conversations with colleagues, parents, and children.
  • Discusses long-term structural decisions about early childhood programs, as well as day-to-day classroom teaching plans.
  • Includes questions that prompt teachers to recognize the influence of overt and covert societal forces on their motivations and views of children.
  • Free supplemental resources, including a comprehensive list of suggested books, can be downloaded at www.tcpress.com.

“A pioneer in multicultural/social justice education for young children, this book reflects Patty Ramsey’s life-long commitment to, and ever-deepening understanding of the issues, challenges, and hopes of inclusive, equitable early childhood programs. At a time when our country seems increasingly polarized over the value and meaning of justice for all, her insights and suggestions are as needed as ever.”—Louise Derman-Sparks, international consultant on anti-bias education with children and adults, and co-author of Leading Anti-Bias Early Childhood Programs: A Guide for Change

“This book is a timely, relevant resource for anyone who works with young children in any capacity. It supports practitioners to develop an individualized approach to infusing multicultural education—broadly defined—into their world views and work. Ramsey makes a clear and convincing case that multicultural education is not an ‘add-on’; it is a vehicle for shaping children’s lives and creating a more just society.”—Takiema Bunche Smith, Director of the Early Education Leadership Institute at SCO/FirstStepNYC

After Tom Pollard's knee injury ends his basketball hopes, and his older brother Bob is killed in Vietnam, he drops out of Berkeley and slums as a bartender in a hippie haunt on Vancouver Island. In an attempt to rescue him, his conservative girlfriend Ruby takes a job teaching school there, but soon becomes weary of Tom's lost soul routine. When summer arrives, she returns home to Anaheim, indefinitely. In her absence, Tom overindulges in booze and drugs, until reality intrudes and forces him to confront death, loss, and the conspiring, malevolent universe. Fresh insightful, and often hilarious, The Dregs of Aquarius is a counter-culture Catcher in the Rye that delves into the coming-of-age challenges common to every generation. For anyone who didn't experience the hippie era first-hand, or for baby boomers who can't remember much about the whole scene and might want a refresher, The Dregs of Aquarius is the perfect trip.

In other words, they are works that offer deliberate social commentary, political criticism, or focus on the individual to explore some part of the human condition.I snagged this definition off of Google because I wanted you to know exactly what you'd be getting with Rick Dewhurst's "The Dregs of Aquarius". It falls directly into the literary fiction category unlike his other novels. Rick skillfully takes the reader back in time to the 1960s, a time when rebelling from the social norms became popular. Even though I was young at the time it was exactly how I remembered it. Without the use of foul language the writing is fantastic and makes reading the book a delight. If I'm not mistaken this book contains the longest sentence in the history of mankind and because of what was going on at the time it fit perfectly. There is very little plot to the story and more of a snapshot of a summer on an island in Vancouver Canada. The description states that Ruby (the main characters girlfriend) is conservative but I'd say she's not but she is closer to living a normal productive life. Tom is so messed that Ruby splits to show him how serious she is about family and career. During this time Tom gets worse, much worse. Rick takes the reader through a journey of discovery that is both insightful and entertaining. As King Solomon said "there is nothing new under the sun". Even though we are 50 years past the 1960s the same philosophies permeate today's society, we just use different vernacular and we dress different. As we learn through Tom's experience we can learn about ours.Recommended

What’s wrong with education today? How can we fix it? There is no silver bullet but there are a lot of small changes and a few big ones. Finding out how to keep teachers who care in the classroom is critical, and it’s not just more money (though God knows, that would help). It is hard to find a teacher who’s been teaching in public schools for 5-15 years. They burn out by 5 or they already have over 15 years and are just waiting to retire at 20. College for 4-5 years, maybe a graduate degree, take on enough debt to last a lifetime, for a job that pays...well, not enough to raise a family and pay back that debt. And no combat pay! Even though you may be stabbed, shot, or maligned. Is it rewarding? Definitely. With your students in your classroom, it’s what you imagined. But then you have to factor in the administration, which any ex-teacher will tell you is the reason they are not there any more. Schooled: A Teacher’s Memoir is for teachers, education students, parents and the students themselves. The story of a lifetime of teaching and learning, what it was to learn ‘real writing’, ‘new math’, and coming of age in the 60s Vietnam/civil rights/chaos era in the South. From a career in sales set aside for a ‘higher calling’ to teach only to discover that teaching is sales, this teacher’s life provides a clear lens to look through and see what needs to be kept, removed or added.

An Enjoyable Account of A Teacher's Experiences with American Schools By Terri Michelle “Schooled: A Teacher’s Memoir” is an enjoyable narrative of the molding of an incredible teacher. Her experiences are a lens for the readers to see why so many leave the noble profession. Reba Saxon is the teacher Lilly Tomlin, as Edith Ann, says she likes, “a teacher who gives you something to take home and think about besides homework”. Schooled will be enjoyed by all, teachers, students, administrators and parents.

You know you are reading a wonderful book with a fantastic author team when you just can’t put the book down. All you want to do is keep reading until you are finished. Then, you sigh and think to yourself why didn’t I slow down because now what do I read to top that. Melanie Shawn pulls you into the story. You feel as if you are a part of the story. The editing is awesome. There are no miscues to make you stop and have to read again. The storyline will keep you interested from start to stop. Levi owns the local bar in town. He and Shelby had an encounter at a wedding over a year ago. He has never forgotten that encounter even though she left without a goodbye. Shelby comes back to Hope Falls to try to get her life back together. There are sparks flying everywhere, but both of them are too stubborn to do anything about this lust. Each have their own reasons, but you just want to shake them and yell, “Get on with it!”. Even though this book is a part of a series, you could read it as a stand alone. Other characters reappear, but you can follow the story without knowing their backgrounds. Dual point of view. No cliffhanger. I can’t wait to visit Hope Falls again. If you haven’t checked out any of this writing team’s other series, do yourself a favor and one click those books.

By Alima Livzletlivz I’ve missed Hope Falls and it’s totally orgasmic to revisit it and the wonderful characters have made the Hope Falls Series memorable and unforgettable. The sister duo of Melanie and Shawna take the readers back to Hope Falls, to Shelby Kellan and the sexy and private Levi Dorsey. Shelby is coming back home to the safety of her family and the support of her friends, to escape a traumatic and abusive breakup. Hiding the truth from family and wanting to recuperate emotionally as she decides her future, Hope Falls is the perfect safety net. Or so she thinks until she faces Levi and ends up working in his bar.The quiet and private ex detective Levi Dorsey wants to keep his life that – quiet and private. And private with his thoughts of Shelby and the perfect kiss they had shared more than a year ago. A kiss that had ruined him for any other woman, and an attraction and lust that only Shelby can cure. And working together everyday puts him on the edge of a precipice!! And his love for Shelby would always have him keeping her under his protective embrace.Another simple, charming and a perfect love story, with all its imperfections, Melanie Shawn weaves magic to my heart’s content with Shelby and Levi. The detective in him realizes the pain behind Shelby and yet gives her the space to trust him enough with her fears. As for Shelby, as educated and savvy she may be, it takes courage and immense strength for any woman to break away from domestic abuse. She needs support, love and the security of family and friends, to protect and help her mend and as that abused woman Shelby is just perfect.Captivating and charming, sizzling and hot, emotional and intense, “Perfect Kiss” is simply a perfect love story that would appeal to the heart and leave a smile of pure happiness.Received an ARC from the author for an honest review.

Too much story telling By ELLY WOODWORTH I can't give the book a 5 star rating, because the way the story was told is more of a story of the characters rather than dialogs which makes it more interesting to learn the wits and the feelings of the hero and heroine. l skipped a lot of pages.
