Very good for students of German language By Amazon Customer What I like from this old fashioned book with these stories is the colloquial language and the way I can practice new skills in Grammar and vocabulary Useful for students of German language like me The tales are simple, but nice. They have that God Middle Age concept that has nothing to do with my beliefs but I could not care less. I nejoyed reading those andid stories but most of all learned new words and expressions in German. If you are an advanced student of German it is a good book. Finding love and romance amidst much turmoil, prejudice and injustices. I find this story mesmerizing, intriguing and fascinating with Irish fanatics and dangerous situations. The heroine sacrificed much for justice but find more than she every dreamed possible, a family to love her, true love, and healing. The hero found his calling, finally, and the love of his life, if they can survive the turmoil and truth.Fast paced, well written with vivid descriptions, engaging characters and a unique storyline.I was impressed with the author's obvious research of the Irish Rebellion, and the era. Fans of Historical Fiction, historical romance, the Irish Rebellion, passion, romance, and love will enjoy this dangerous but compelling story. A wonderful read! By Jaci An amazing historically detailed story about the history of the Irish Rebellion and the heros and villians that participated in deceit, betrayal, murder. In the middle of a thirst for vengeance for her Irish father the heroine Fianna becomes entangled with the nephew of the man she has come to England to kill. Christian Pennington knows Fianna is a woman bent on revenge and his uncle is her target but he also knows that she is a lonely, tormented, confused and lost. He wants to keep his family safe and show Fianna what it is liked to be loved and cherished. A beautifully written love story that has everything you want in a great historical romance with heart wrenching emotion, heartbreak and a great HAE. Really enjoyed this book, cannot wait for the next one in the series.Received free copy from Netgalley from Publisher for honest review.

By Heather L Fianna Cameron is out to seek justice and vengeance for who father who was hanged as a traitor during the Irish Rebellion. She has set out to make every man who betrayed her father pay for their betrayals. She is down to one man, the most important one of all. The one who ordered her father execution and spread malicious lies about him after he was dead. Fianna becomes a courtesan to gain passage to London to find the man she seeks. Believing she has finally found him she sets out to end his life but Instead she accidently shoots another. When he meets Fianna he is in awe of her beauty and asks for help to translate a Gaelic message on the pistol left behind by the shooter. As they spend more time together Kit begins to realize the truth but is unsure of what to do with it so he lies and sets traps for Fianna to fall in and reveal her true intentions. Christian Pennington is the third son and youngest brother of a Viscount. The nephew of Colonel Christopher Pennington, the man whom Fianna seeks. When Kit is shot by a hooded woman, he sets out to discover her identity and have her tell everyone that she is not a scorned lover. The author has done an excellent job researching and portraying historical facts from the Irish Rebellion. She has intigrated history into a perfect work of fiction mixed in with vengence, mystery, betrayal, and love. Mrs. Bennet's heroine is broken and unloved but has many redeemable qualities. The hero is young and naive but together they work. She also writes secondary characters in a way that leaves the reader wanting to know more about them. As an American, I have always viewed WW2 as a clearly just war, where the Good Allies put down the Evil Axis Powers, who were bent on destroying an entire race and a biblical religion while imposing their will on a huge part of the world. The defeat of Hitler was necessary and urgent.Missionary and author Dan Byrum's new novel, My Day to Die adds depth the this WW2 narrative by telling the story of a German soldier who struggles with his faith and the justice of this war he's caught up in. When Klaus Sankt, a student at the University of London in the 1930s, gets a letter from his home country of Germany notifying of his conscription into the German army, he dutifully wraps up his studies and returns home. When he takes an oath to follow the commands of the Führer, Hitler, he sincerely does so. As he gradually becomes aware of the true evil agenda behind the German war machine, he struggles with doing what is right.Byrum chooses to tell the story as a series of flashbacks. A team of researchers from The Jewish Holocaust Justice Fund has turned up Sankt's name, and want to gather evidence to try him as a Nazi war criminal. He agreeably grants them an interview, which turns into a series of lengthy sessions during which he tells his story. They thought they had evidence that Sankt was a war criminal, who killed Jews and others at an infamous concentration camp. While that did turn out to be at least partially true, as they gathered Sankt's full story, they saw that the truth was much more complex.Byrum presents Sankt's story not to excuse the evils of the Nazi terror, but to personalize the struggles of Germans living under Nazi rule. Sankt's combat experience would be familiar to any soldier: the flag you're fighting under means less to a soldier than the men he's fighting next to. He took action in the battlefield and as a concentration camp guard that put his life and family at risk while defending innocent lives.As Sankt's story progresses, his paths cross again with his buddy from college days, and Englishman named Darby Oakley. Darby falls in love with one of Sankt's German friends. Their marriage provides additional complexity to the question of war and allegiance. When the enemy is your in-laws or your old college roommate, the fight takes on another dimension.In the course of the interviews, Sankt reflects on the choices he made as a soldier, a citizen, and, at times, a vigilante. "Where there is no law some men become lawless. Where there is lawlessness there is no restraint and when there is no restraint there is no way to stop a lawless man except by killing him so he can't hurt another." War time wreaks havoc on ethics. Powerful, insane dictators force innocent, moral people to face horrible dilemmas. Sankt's story is fictional, but it surely reflects the experiences of a large number of Germans during WW2 who were forced to find a way to live ethically under an unethical regime.(As a final note, I must point out that Dan has self-published My Day to Die. Readers will agree that he could have used a proofreader and editor. Even with the resulting "rough draft" feel of the text, the merits of the story outweigh other factors. My Day To Die A Great Book By L Colton After reading many WW ll books recently, and being American and German descent this book has been the absolute best. The human factors were remarkable as if the author really knew them,and exactly what they were going through. Even though the book really needed editing, I was sorry to have the story end. Definitely worth reading should be on best sellers list.

The story itself is worthy of 5 stars (perhaps more). The number of grammatical and other errors merits 1 star (perhaps less). No matter how frustrating the language, this is a novel worth reading. It is both entertaining and historically important.In the prologue, the reader is introduced to a German (Nazi) death camp in all its ugliness. The horror is understated, but it is still a powerful beginning.The overlay of the story is the hunt for German (read Nazi) war criminals. Investigators interview a former German soldier (Klaus Sankt) who has detailed and personal knowledge of the Holocaust years. Through a series of flashbacks, beginning in the 1930's, he tells his story, which is also the story of Germany in those years. Sankt is a mix: a Christian willing to share his faith, a person willing to help others even if it is personally dangerous, an instrument of the Nazi state to a degree, a brave soldier, and a dispenser of violent street justice against evil.The author is an excellent story teller. The narrative is richly detailed, a vivid portrayal of events. It is a tale of good and evil, but also a story about humanness. Characters are well defined and emotionally rich. Additionally, there is some rapid fire action.There is, however, a steady stream of grammatical errors, misspellings, and wrong word usage -- probably, all can be grouped together. In a few places, sentences are muddled. Everyone makes mistakes; but in this novel, there are a multitude on most pages. It is disruptive and annoying.Three notes:The forms of evil may be different, but the Holocaust is typical of organized evil. The Holocaust should be remembered because no one is immune to the venom of evil. We like to think we are, but we are not. Look at our own history of racial strife.The author seems to indicate that enlisted soldiers and lesser ranking officers and officials who participated in the Holocaust and the Nazi state are not guilty of crimes against humanity, that guilt belongs only at the highest levels. Not true; the crimes belong to all participants.I tend to use the word German rather than Nazi. From my research for my novel, which is both fantasy and in those sections dealing with Nazi Germany reality, I found to my satisfaction that the German people were complicit in mass murder of the Jews and others deemed undesirable. It may be that some mainstream Germans believed it went too far or did not know the full extent of the evil, but I have my doubts. Germans, I believe, knew what was happening. The Nazis were the instruments, but the whole nation bears the guilt because of the people's vehement anti-Semitism. Reviewed by the author of The Children's Story, About Good and Evil.

Crenshaw This is a fun and easy book to read that will leave you often saying, "Good idea" and "I wish I had known that." It is a helpful book to give to a student or anyone looking for advice on making life choices. The book is a series of short stand alone paragraphs about a point of wisdom. For the student it talks about choices when deciding on a major, navigating college life, then on to giving an interview when you are looking for a job and many other things in between. If you are a parent or teacher you will inevitably find nuggets to share with your child or student. As an adjunct professor I was interested in reading this book and found it to be a great tool many people can benefit from. I like to review books because I love to read. I like to give books away because I love to give people something they can learn from and use. With graduation around the corner this is a book that would be beneficial to share with a student getting ready to step out on their own.

Wit and wisdom and pathways to success By Grady Harp Gina DeLapa is an adjunct faculty member at the University of San Diego after serving some years as a career counselor at Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Michigan. Reading her collection of 367 bits of wisdom it is likely that the students she counseled grew dramatically under her guidance.These phrases, suggestions, bits of advice are at once entertaining and thought provoking and each one could bring a little `aha' moment as you read and enjoy them. Some examples follow:Don't pit education against experience. You need both.If you want to be happy, self confident, and unstoppable, banish the excuses. Life happens to us all.Even if you're bored in class, smile and sit up straight. It will help you become interested.Now that you're a college student, treat your parents with more respect, not less.Don't be too quick to label other people, especially your family.Get to know people who don't look like you or think like you.And on the bits of wisdom flow. At times Gina elaborates on a catchy phrase and therein lies her ability to soften a stern admonition with a dollop of humor. This is a great little book to have around the house (and to tuck into the backpack of students). Let's hope there will be more books to follow. Grady Harp, April 15

By Kelly Sottelbaum Disclaimer: I received this book free of charge in exchange for an honest review.Another great book from Gina DeLapa, but for me, it wasn't quite as good as her first one. Both are interesting - funny, insightful and such, but perhaps because this one is focused on a single topic, it loses a bit of appeal for me.As a whole, it's a good book...if giving as a gift to the new high school grad (or anyone heading to college), it'd be a nice, though I would probably recommend packing up this one and her first book together in either case.
