By Sarah Mel (Smut and Bonbons) To Tempt a Thief is the first of a four part romance; this series is made up of multiple novellas. You’ve been warned; this book will end with a cliffhanger. On the upside all four novellas are now available so you won’t have to wait.Arianne is destined to be a great art thief. Born into a gypsy-like family of notorious thieves, she is controlled by their unconventional code all the while growing a conscious and wanting to flex a bit of independence.Jared is wealthy, alpha male with the uncanny ability to observe and recognize when a new beauty is not all she seems. It also doesn’t hurt that he’s British…and I imagined that accent in every bit of his dialogue.This tale is smart, well-written, and engaging. The instantaneous and charge chemistry between Ari and Jared is why I love reading. The cherry on top is the surrounding intrigue with Ari’s circumstances. I always felt like there is some detail just out of my reach and the fact I can’t figure out the entire plot is refreshing.In normal circumstances this is a short story I’d read in one setting, unfortunately I kept getting interrupted by outside events. Regardless, I found To Tempt a Thief to be a great respite amongst the chaos. She tells herself just one drink before going in search of the painting to 'complete the job' for her boss. The one thing she didn't expect was a bored billionaire making his way over to her. Jared not only hopes to make pleasant contact with the beauty, but her wit and flirtations capture his attention all the more. After another round of drinks at the bar, he accompanies her over to the auction.This book starts off sooo slow, even the quiet smoldering glances between the two characters are boring. I think it is quite disappointing that the book didn't seem to pick up at all, or that the book didn't seem to hold my interest.

At moments you might need to fan yourself down.Captivated right from the beginning and once I started I knew I’d be hooked with this series. Interesting characters, fun environments they find themselves in, some of the hottest sex scenes I have read in a while and the whole time feeling somewhat very believable with how they act with each other. Even after only knowing each other for a such a short time. They both want to escape from who they are and be the ‘real’ them for a change instead of the persona that they show to the rest of the world. They have only one rule – no names. The moment they know them the fantasy they have created with each other will break and that’s the last thing that either of them really want.Ari has been thrown into a life that she really doesn’t want anymore. After being raised by a thief there really was little choice about what line of work she would go into when she grew up. After a heist that went wrong ended in her fathers’ death – due to a supposed double cross – she now is pretty much owned by her fathers’ old crew. There isn’t much love loss between them but she knows that there is little choice for her in what she does. Her latest ‘job’ is to go to an art auction and scope out the place to see if there would be anything worth having. After being to so many of these before little surprises her but when a seductively, mouth watering distraction meets her at the bar she wonders what it would be like to just be herself for a change and take something for her – enter her mysterious Brit.Jared has come to the art auction for one reason – to acquire a certain painting – but when he spots a beauty at the bar he wants to acquire something else entirely. After having an interesting interaction at the bar and some fun with bidding at the auction he knows there is more to her than meets the eye. When he catches her red-handed somewhere she shouldn’t be her knows his assumptions were correct. But when she turns her charms to full on seduction he soon no longer cares what she was up to as long as he can have her now.When her mysterious Brit catches Ari red-handed while she was checking out what could potentially be taken from the property Ari does the only logically thing she can think of – kiss him. She just didn’t bank on him being so good and wanting a hell of a lot more than a kiss. All I can say is, what fun you can have in a closet! After a night of fun Ari doesn’t think she will ever see him again but when her boss gets wind of how much someone paid for a painting at the auction he wants her to investigate. Which only ends up bringing her that much closer to what she really wants but doesn’t think she should ever have.Favourite quote “If you think for one minute I’d share you with another man, love, you’re sorely mistaken”.You have an aaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh moment at the end as it’s got a cliffhanger – just makes you crave the next instalment that much more. Thomas Jefferson, by contrast, believed that nurturing a student’s capacity for lifelong learning was useful for science and commerce while also being essential for democracy. In this provocative contribution to the disputes, university president Michael S. Roth focuses on important moments and seminal thinkers in America’s long-running argument over vocational vs. liberal education.   Conflicting streams of thought flow through American intellectual history: W. E. B. DuBois’s humanistic principles of pedagogy for newly emancipated slaves developed in opposition to Booker T. Washington’s educational utilitarianism, for example. Jane Addams’s emphasis on the cultivation of empathy and John Dewey’s calls for education as civic engagement were rejected as impractical by those who aimed to train students for particular economic tasks. Is it vocational instruction meant to lead to immediate employment after graduation or a time for expansive ideas and self-exploration? He argues that liberal education, with its emphasis on critical thinking, is an important part of American ideals of democracy. He traces the historical roots of liberal education from the ancient Greeks through the Middle Ages and the Enlightenment. But he focuses on American thinkers, including Thomas Jefferson, Frederick Douglass, W. E. B. DuBois, William James, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Jane Addams, John Dewey, and others. He examines the old debate about the usefulness and even democracy of a liberal education—whether it is aimed at the elite and is useless for the masses—as well as current threats from the government, from business, from political interests, and within the universities themselves. By Diane DelSignore A very clear exposition of why liberal education matters with historical context that closely ties the answer to the evolution of the values of the U.S.A. A reader should be aware, however, that the book is incomplete. Michael Roth does not make it clear how the liberal education in today's institutions of higher education actually deliver the benefits of a liberal education, only that the objectives are worthwhile. Secondly, he does not answer the question of how to deliver these objectives at a price that the middle income, let alone broader society, can afford.

Van Broekhoven When so much of higher education is based on pragmatic purposes, such as getting a good paying job, we are reminded that higher education should if it is done right, prepare men and women for lifelong learning, curiosity about the world around them, and what it takes to be a responsible citizen in any culture, and particularly in a democratic society. Ideas do make a difference, and Michael Roth reminds us about how much we miss in education if we fail to see that, and simply prepare for careers, or maybe vocations that are determined by past generations.

Professor Roth cares about what he writes and he makes others care, too. When I took his class, How to Change the World, it inspired me to really believe that I could contribute to a better world. Now, he hits the mark again, by making me believe that a liberal education really does matter. We need to understand our world, and all aspects of it, and Professor Roth gives valid reasons why a liberal education can help all of us to better connect with one another, and understand each other in a way that technology and science alone cannot deliver. Thank you, Dr. Roth, for being the amazing human being that you are.

By Martina Isabela Beltran I really appreciated the positive approach and the emphasis on getting your mind focused on productivity through overall wellness in addition to hyper-powered work. The hacks are research-based and grounded in current understanding on how to function optimally as a creative person determined to accomplish a lot while living a sane life, so these tips really feel relevant and workable. This book is stuffed full of time-saving, different and new hacks to save time and energy doing, well it seems like everything. There are also listings of specific app hacks for increasing productivity to help engineer a high-yield life. The writing is clear and convincing and the organization is solid, easy to read cover to cover or to thumb through when you need an inspiration jolt. By beth hansen Okay I am a go getter but have always had a time management problem I get distracted to easily therefore I have always been the late night over worker to get things done. 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Wow! By Loves to read From the initial death of the unlamented Fankie Slick, this plot grows and twists enough to have kept me up past my bed-time! The complex character of Father Hardy, Episcopal (yes, they can get married) priest , brings an interesting moral prespective to the needs of his town as he discovers secrets and history during his investigation. Add some complex friendships, a welcome nocturnal visitor and a mysterous woman to make this mystery riviting. The setting in very rural Alaska after the end of WWII is real enough to feel the ice! This excellent blend of setting, characters and mystery left me hoping for more.

I couldn't put it down until I'd finished it - way past when I should have been asleep. The combination of setting, plot and characters makes this book a great read. From the introduction of Frankie Slick (as a frozen corpse), it's clear that Farther Hardy (an Episcopal priest new to Alaska) has a mystery to solve. Following the twists and turns of the investigation immerses the reader in the fascinating aspects of life in rural Alaska. Indecent Exposure takes the reader on a fun filled adventure.

The writing is so good you will not have to go to the frozen north yourself to know how it feels. You can thank Mr. Stratman for that since his verbiage is so exact you will taste the jerky and smell the chimney smoke right where you sit.

Establishing Umass Boston's Identity By Dean I was worried this book might be a self-aggrandizing collection of captioned photos from the UMB archives, but it isn't that at all.Umass Boston, lacking the clear history and identity of many of Boston's other colleges, really needs what this book provides. And although the narrative touts the school's real achievements and lofty mission as a public university, it does not self aggrandize. It does not exclude the political scandal around the Dorchester campus's shoddy construction, the clunky absorption of Boston State College, and the turmoil of the initial passing over of Keith Motley as Chancellor.Umass Boston at 50 traces the university's roots back further than 50 years. To be sure, the Boston campus of the University of Massachusetts system opened in 1965. However, Boston State College, with its own much longer history, joined Umass Boston in 1982. Although it was very much an absorption by UMB, with the closure of Boston State's campus and elimination of Boston State's redundant programs, faculty and staff--it boosted UMB's undergraduate entrollment by 38% and tripled graduate enrollment.Boston State College dates to a teacher training program begun in 1852. I think that if UMB wanted to consider itself 163 years old, it would be justified in doing so. In fact, I am surprised UMB doesn't do this, since it could strengthen the school's image and prestige. On the other hand, I suppose it is also worth something to be clear that UMB is a real university, not simply an expanded teachers college. At any rate, I feel that the book handles this thoughtfully by recognizing Boston State as a key part of what made UMB what it is today.The book only touches on another important piece of UMB's story. There is a vignette about Mark D'Agostino, a medical doctor who credits UMB with helping him find direction as a young adult with a drug problem. I know there are many more stories like this.

The title 'Death Pope' was just too intriguing to ignore, even though the genre was not typical of my normal reading. However, before I ever read 'Death Pope', I looked at his back catalogue and discovered his first novel, 'The Right Kind of Stupid' which so delighted me that I gifted copies of it to anyone I felt might like it.The 'Death Pope' series is a very different type of story than TRKoS, but just as well written! John Oakes writes compelling characters and Roberto and his friends are no different! In addition, the author brings the settings, customs and politics of Italy and the Vatican to life in an engaging way while also telling one heck of an action tale!

Compelling historical fiction with contemporary implications By Kathleen Arcuri I had the privilege of reading a pre-release version of this thought-provoking, thoroughly researched, and well-written book. As today's political and religious strife captures our attention on a daily basis, it is useful to examine incidents of discrimination and violence against ethnic and religious minorities throughout history. The author has fictionalized her Armenian family's story in the late nineteenth century Ottoman Empire, to help us understand how diverse communities can live peacefully with each other until underlying resentments are enflamed by political interests. The narrative feels compellingly real, as two families' lives intersect and diverge towards a dramatic denouement. Compelling too are the individual characters, male and female, as they portray daily life in a small village inhabited by Christians, Muslims, and Jews in what is now eastern Turkey.

Of special note is that the author tells this story from multiple points of view, and does notsimplistically create "good guys" and "bad guys". It examines the people and relationships on both sides of this tragedy caught up in the blowback from geopolitical games not of their making. Highly recommended.

I had no prior knowledge of this event, however the author describes this incident so vividly, and develops the characters so well, that it all comes alive. The book is of historic interest, intellectually stimulating and emotionally powerful.
