I have no knowledge of the education system, and in fact, except for a semester in College, I have not been educated in the U. S. I read a lot of books, mostly on Kindle, and this book seemed interesting to check out. I am glad I did.This is a fascinating book about teaching and the education system. It is intended to help new teachers without trying to change the system. After reading a few chapters, I was amazed that any students are able to learn in this system. The fact that they can, must be a testament to dedicated teachers like Bob Farber and others like him.By the time I finished Chapter 2, I decided that if Bob could be my teacher, I would be willing to go back to school. The rest of the chapters, except the last one, are providing a lot of information on how things work in the system and why they work that way.The final chapter is uplifting. It focuses on teaching, “the best job in education”. You don’t have to work to be promoted—you already have the best job. It covers a wide range of suggestions on how to make it work.Even if you are not a teacher, it is a worthwhile look into the education system and into the life and experiences of one of its master practitioners.

I would love to hear his comments about standard based report cards By Buckhorn As a seasoned, experienced teacher, I found the book delightful and insightful. Mr. Farber relates the triumphs and the disappointments of teaching with wit and sarcasm. He makes profound statements about curriculum, motivation, administrative policies, and students’ diverse personalities and needs. The section about grading systems is very interesting. I would love to hear his comments about standard based report cards. A down to earth, realistic book!

My family, for generations, has been in the teaching profession and what Farber writes is so true. He is a genius at handling students--wish I had thought of some of these things while I was teaching.

This book had very few errors and was full of practice examples. In addition, every mathematical topic was explained in great detail. The only fault I found with the book is that it didn't really cover percentages, but the section of decimals and fractions sort of made up for that. Overall, a great resource for those with less than stellar math backgrounds.

There are a few errors in the book, but most of them have been hand corrected by the publisher (they used a Sharpie to mark up the corrections...). The Problem Sets (within each section) are somewhat repetitive, however, they reinforce important concepts. The Author covers Integers, Fractions, Decimals, Exponents and Radicals in the finest of detail. For some reason Logarithms are not covered.....

A Good Read By SK Glazer Peter Bernard has written a face paced mystery about how the conflicts between two immigrant families in Canada at the turn of the 20th century has repercussions in the battle for succession to a family business in present day New York. When family patriarch Aaron Brownstein dies, the reading of his will requires that his four children listen to the reading of a long preamble that describes the history of the Canadian families, complete with sibling rivalries, betrayal of loyalties, and even murder. As the preamble is read over many days, the long time conflicts between the Brownstein siblings escalate, repeating the patterns of violence and murder of the earlier time, and raising the same issues of who is loved best, and who is the most competent to take leadership of the family business. The book is written primarily from the perspective of one of the Brownstein sons Andrew, maybe (or maybe not) his father's favorite. Over a few hectic weeks Andrew works to solve the murders, interact with his various siblings, at the same time protecting himself from the violence clearly aimed at him. It was fun to read the book through its twists and turns, trying to anticipate what came next, and trying to figure out myself "who done it". You'll enjoy reading it, and I strongly recommend it to you.

By Amazon Customer J Robert Kennedy has given us another terrific novel with the characters that he has developed with Jim Acton, Laura Palmer, Hugh Reading, The Special Forces Delta Team and CIA specialists including Dylan Kane. The story weaves a mysterious historical painting a self portrait of Davinci with the Vatican, the "Keepers" and members of a group called the Congress who plans a revival of the 4th Reich by cloning a master race. This is another fast paced story that has a lot of twists and turns and unexpected events. The good part is that you can pick up any of the Acton series books and each one has a historical and current signifigance.

Robert Kennedy, a fast paced plot from current headlines, lots of action, great characters, descriptive writing and a nice touch of humor. Although this is an Acton novel, characters from his other series play a major role here and given more depth to their background. When a new J. Robert Kennedy book comes out, I stop whatever I'm reading to read it and I've never been disappointed.

A thrilling action packed ride By Mystery Thriller Fan Take a fascinating ancient myth and throw in a true story from the NAZI era in Italy and just add Acton for a thrilling action packed ride. J Robert Kennedy does it again. I am hooked on his books. I like the way he takes the ancient myth surrounding a da Vinci self-portrait and the desire of Hitler to own it and weaves a modern day thriller into actual historical events. One of his best yet. Highly recommended.

Decent starter book but incomplete for a serious score increase By GMAT Club (Expert) ~~~~~ STRENGTHS ~~~~~- No tricks, just straightforward strategies to every section (3-4 steps). Easy to remember and simple to use- Was just the right length for me (covered it in 3 weeks)- Good number of exercise questions; both 220 GMAT-like (220) and exercises in the chapters; the questions are on the harder side- Style/Usage guide and list of idioms (you must know all of these)- Sets the right expectations (GMAT-style reading is very different from casual reading). You must forget what you know and re-learn reading to succeed- The CR approach to answer the question before reading answer choices works like a charm- The RC section is what really shines in this book~~~~~ WEAKNESSES ~~~~~- I felt the SC section was a little weak (5 pages plus a grammar section in the back). If you are a non-native speaker, you should definitely plan on getting a dedicated grammar book. Kaplan's Verbal Foundations is not bad- One of the question sets/banks overlaps with the online exercises in the Kaplan Premier book- The CR questions are slightly different from the official "flavor", which is typical for third-party questions. Keep this in mind and make sure you train your ear on the Official Guide or GMAT Prep before the test~~~~~ BOTTOM LINE: Though not as detailed as some of the dedicated RC, CR, SC books, it provides a good balance of useful strategies/instruction and time required to cover them. Good number of practice questions and also a grammar/style usage guide at the end. There is a total of 250 verbal questions (no new ones in the 7th edition)SC: 96RC: 82CR: 72There has been no changes besides some minor typo corrections from the last edition, so if you can get the seventh edition cheaper - get it. 7th and 8th edition books are the same.~~~~~ SOME TIPS ~~~~~Here is a list of both tips and mistakes I have seen people make through my years at GMAT Club:- Whenever you practice, do so in a timed environment (give yourself an average of 2 mins). If you don't, you are really wasting your time and setting unrealistic expectations- Follow the strategies to the "T". If you are not getting a good score, it is probably because you are not following the strategies exactly and cutting corners. It is very important to read the CR passages twice, and to read the RC completely- Leverage your strengths and perfect the timing. Strike a balance between the question types. Reading was the hardest for me and I peaked at about 2.5 mins per RC question. (I noticed that if I spent only 2 mins on average, my success rate went down from 90% to about 60-70%) That was not good enough but instead of trying to break through that wall, I worked on answering SC questions in 1 min average and CR's in 1.5 mins average. That gave me enough time to approach RC properly- Have a problem with keeping attention through the long or intense GMAT passages - try to be passionate about the passage. Imagine that it is the most interesting/revolting/provocative/unbelieavable stories. Care about it!- Optional suggestion (which I think is very helpful by the way) - read quality fiction books in your spare time. Our minds are not prepared to read the GMAT-level passages (length or intensity or timing wise). You need to train your mind to be open to these and to know how to deal with them. I would recommend getting some quality fiction books - it will help not only with RC but also with SC as your grammar ear will be much more trained. This is how I managed to crack SC's in 1 minute or less.- If you are a non-native speaker, make sure your English is OK before you start on the verbal section. Knowing strategies is valuable only when you understand what you reading. I know this sounds obvious but so many people ignore this- On the test, draw a grid and use it to eliminate answer choices. By the time you reach the verbal section, you are 3 hours into the test and your mind will not be able to hold anything. A grid (which you can draw during a break or as you are reading the instructions) will help eliminate/track answer choices on hard questions- You don't need to take dozens of practice tests. Don't use practice tests to learn material; instead, know it ahead of time and use practice tests to hone your strategies and timing. He later married Athenia who had made a mistake which hurt her reputation.George told her they had to act perfect with themselves and their family. Athenia only wanted to be loved she never had before is George ever going to love her? This is a light read for me would never read it again.

Definitely written at a sixth grade and above level. Recommended for ages 11-12. I would agree with that. The pages are clean and uncluttered. Gets your child the most important information about each subject. Has a lot about metaphors, ratios, and logic, which was a nice surprise. I highly recommend this book for any child who is 11 or older. We have used Brainquest books of many grades for years. Nice homeschool supplements to whatever curriculum you prefer. (We also play the Brainquest board game to supplement our homeschool.)

We've used other brand workbooks in the past and this one is by far the best I've tried. My kids don't like it much - we use it as a time filler in the summer to keep their skills sharp while they are out of school. It seems to match up well to what the kids are learning/have learned in school. The pages are laid out nicely and are easy to follow - I like that there is an answer key in the back just in case. I will buy this brand again next year. This mom approves!

13 of 17 people found the following review helpful. SLOPPY EDITING, PRODUCTION, AND NUMEROUS ERRORS IN ANSWER KEY By ME The errors in the answer key are too numerous to list here. I checked the company's website to see if they had corrected their errors online, but there was nothing indicating that they had even acknowledged these frustrating errors. I find it hard to believe that they don't know by now that the answer key has numerous errors. They got their money, so why should they care?? In addition, the book has numerous activities that are not numbered, and so when you look to the answer key for the answers, it is very confusing to have to figure out which answer goes with which activity. We paid for a professionally produced workbook, and instead received a workbook that clearly is the victim of sloppy editing and poor production. One final note: After reading the excerpt of Little Women, my children told me they found it "disturbing" to see the illustration of Jo missing both arms, and the illustration of Mrs. March on the following page missing one arm. My children and I had looked forward to this latest Brain Quest Workbook, and now this! What a MAJOR DISAPPOINTMENT!

Over the past year, we've begun at-home brain training exercises and games to help remedy his challenges. We've seen great improvement!The Dyslexia Games Series C Workbooks have been one fun tool in our arsenal. The first book in the series, IQ Challenge, requires him to view various drawings then figure out what's missing in a subsequent drawing and add the missing parts himself with a pen. The amount of focused attention to detail and replication of that detail has been SO helpful to strengthen his attention capabilities AND his handwriting is improving.He would want me to tell you that he doesn't always enjoy completing the pages. Why? Well, he's 15 - what 15 year old boy really appreciates drawing worksheets? More importantly, though, they challenge his brain. Building new neuron connections isn't an easy task and he's honestly tired after completing a few pages. That's a good thing, though. It means his brain has had a good workout.

I received Dyslexia Games Series C as part of a promotion and printed it out for myself to do. Our whole family likes logic games, though some more than others. I was thinking about getting series A & B for my almost 8 & 10 year old ADHD & ADD boys. One day while they were doing independent work, I got out my "Mom school". They were super curious & stole most the pages from me! We all sat for hours and enjoyed the patterns & puzzles. The peace & quiet of concentration was wonderful! I subsequently bought Series A & B (printable pdf's) for them and they each have their own binders. We each complete a few pages a day & love it!

I play music and the three of us do a few pages together, and it is such a peaceful and fun way to start our day. We are quiet and focused, and I already see a change in my ots child's handwriting. Our days seem to go more smoothly with the gentle morning routine. It doesn't feel like school, it feels more like we are sitting enjoying a hobby together. I can't wait to see if the progress continues...

This art is the reason why I feel so relaxed and busy during my day off. The book has detailed instructions on how to draw the unique designs. The designs were just mere guides; the real fun starts when your creativity kicks in while drawing the basic figure. Just start with basic animals or living beings; just need to replace the shapes with mechanical parts and objects; you just med to replace the different mechanical parts.
